One of my favorite would be Edith Piaf in La Vie En Rose.

It's about the most famous chanson-singer in France. She had a very tragic vita. Passionately played by Marion Cotillard.

Another one came to my mind: Lola Lola in Der Blaue Engel. In that movie Marlene Dietrich is a cabaret singer in The Weimar Republic.

Another singer character from The Weimar Republic, would be Sally Bowles

in Cabaret. While the others I suggested are real-life persons, the last two are fictional characters.

Still got an iconic soul and funk hero: James Brown in Get On Up.

Played by the legendary  Chadwick Boseman. For me he stands in a row with big black artists like Tina Turner and James Brown. As an actor he played very good roles and it's a pitty he died so young.
