@cinephile, I agree this IMDb biography is great for him and well-suited for a Jafar Panahi tribute poll introduction. I think it would be hard to write a better one. I do think with three minor tweaks would make it work even better for your purpose. 1) The From IMDb: starter makes it seem like it was just dumped there, I think According to Wikipedia, is far better for this purpose (as it was lifted from there in the first place). 2) Then, you should use the passage you want, but the in quotation marks, which makes it sound more like an expert opinion, as well as, less like ripping off someone else's words. 3) I also think you stop two or three sentences too early. As the last part is really interesting and makes him an even greater filmmaker and hero, IMHO.
FYC,
According to Wikipedia, "Jafar Panahi (Born 11 July 1960) is an Iranian film director, screenwriter, and film editor, commonly identified with the Iranian New Wave film movement. His films are known for their humanistic perspective on life in Iran, often focusing on the hardships of children, the impoverished, and women. Panahi (has been) recognized as one of the most influential film-makers in Iran. Although his films (have often been) banned in his own country (and he has been imprisoned multiple times), he continues to receive international acclaim from film theorists and critics and win numerous awards.
His feature film debut, The White Balloon (1995) ... won the Caméra d'Or at the 1995 Cannes Film Festival, the first major award won by an Iranian film at Cannes. (Other major international awards for Panahi include) ... the Golden Leopard at the Locarno International Film Festival for The Mirror (1997), the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival for The Circle (2000), and the Silver Bear at the Berlin Film Festival for Offside (2006)."
Which Jafar Panahi feature film is your favorite?
I would drop the awards section first, if you choose to edit it for length.
Answer Pool
Plus, five of the fourteen films listed as answer options he did not direct by himself. You should still list them, but be clear in the answer option notes that he was either a co-director or only directed a segment of the film. These listed below are two examples of the films that he only directed a segment of the total film.

I edited the poll. I try to avoid mentioning actuality. I do not like to do politics in my polls. Inevitably making a poll about Panahi is a passive-aggressive protest against Iran. I do not think, I want to be more overt than that on my political sympathies.

Only seen one of his films. No Bears (2022) gets an unenthusiastic 7/10 from me.
