@Jessica

I just added Askaban. (Harry Potter)

It wouldn't be a Face-Off anymore...

What do you think?

I guess it could still be considered a face-off, if there are no more options.

Bell island in “Suicide Squad”. I believe Marvel comics has an island prison for super heroes too that was shown in “Avengers: Civil War”.

The Rock, starring Sean Connery and Nicolas Cage, is about Alcatraz Island (aka the rock), land of the most infamous United States federal prison, prior to Guantanamo Bay U.S. naval base being upgrade to serve such a function.

https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0082340/mediaviewer/rm1180419841You need to change the name of the prison in number 2. Not all of New York was a prison. Only small the small but most famous borough of Manhattan Island was and it’s name was “Manhattan Island Prison”. This image shows a map of the prison with it’s correct name. The movie title is slightly misleading - especially since only a river separates Manhattan from the Bronx.

Ever heard of New York County?

(Tip: Said county is encompassed by the city of the same name.)

@jeorj_euler New York City is composed of five boroughs -  Staten Island (an island and is in Richmond county), Manhattan (an island, and is New York County), The Bronx (the only part of New York City connected to the mainland and is Bronx County) , and both Queens and Brooklyn ( both are eastern side of Long Island and Oueens is Queen’s county and Brooklyn is king’s county). When you check the picture against the image from the film, it is only Manhattan island that is used as the prison. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boroughs_of_New_York_City

Yes, I understood that only one particular island (also a borough and a county) was cordoned off and converted into a final destination for convicts, in the story, as explained in the prologue, without any indication of the city overall undergoing a name change. I was of course exploring the idea of the title of the film being a misnomer and sort of concluding something to the effect of "both yes and"no", seeing as how the name "New York" as a location could be the colony/state, city or county, but the peninsular island borough's name is uniquely Manhattan. I consider it a good idea to refer to the specific boroughs when not referring generally to the whole city. "Escape from Manhattan" would've been just as great of a title, in my humble opinion.

I do find it a bit cheap that portions of a busted Statue of Liberty (particularly her head) appear on the poster for the film, seeing as how it misrepresents the content of the movie; not to mention that Liberty Island appears to belong to both New York and New Jersey, or maybe neither, with much United States government involvement, so as an icon, the giant statue isn't necessarily exclusively an icon of the City of New York, but of course inhabitants of the city like the idea that people will think of the city when seeing photographs of the statue. Sadly, as it goes, a lot of the time, when people think of the city, they think of all the historic or avant-garde skyscrapers in southern Manhattan, maybe the giant park and big library far north of them too, even though the city is comprised of more than just those landmarks.

(Please forgive me for looking right at the map and not acknowledging the fact that there are isles and islets, and in some cases, patches of land belonging to separate bodies of land, within the official boundaries of each borough/county.)

@jeorj_euler no problem. I can understand why Carpenter used a Misnomer in his title. “escape From New York” would sell more tickets and is easily more identifiable than “Escape From Manhattan Island”.
