Live Poll: Cinematic Interiors That Feel Like Another World (Parts 1, 2 and 3)

Intro:

Some interiors feel like more than places to live. They seem to belong to worlds with their own rules, histories, and secrets - worlds that continue far beyond what we can see. What happened here? Who lives here? And what might be waiting just beyond the next doorway? Which one would you most want to explore from the inside? I suggest to first watch the slideshow for seeing the interiors in a bigger format. For discussion, please click here.

Suggestions:

Please suggest interiors like those already on the list. Each list limited to 25 picks

Interesting list. ;D
BTW, the picture from The Return of the King doesn't actually depict Orthanc (Saruman's tower), but Meduseld, The Golden Halls of Edoras in Rohan.
Also, Orthanc is in The Fellowship of the Ring, and I would use this picture for it:

Thank you for the explanation. Such fails always reveal that I'm not a a hardcore fan of LOTR. But please look at the image. It destroys the optical impression of the list. It's close to look like a black square with a few white ants on it. Do you have a better image? That would be nice.

Hmm. This one would be the best, but Saruman is mostly in the image:

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120737/mediaviewer/rm4272521216/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk
If you do not want to use it, you could put the interior of Rivendell in The Fellowship. The best interior from Middle-Earth would be The Halls of Mandos in Valinor (Valinor is where elves and Frodo, Gandalf and Bilbo go at the end), but that is only depicted in Tolkien's The Silmarillion book (the complete Middle-Earth history). Shame we didn't see it on screen (although Silmarillion would be impossimble to adapt).

Alternatively, the interior of Helm's Deep from Two Towers might be good:

The Helm's Deep fortress is actually called Hornburg, so you could say: Hornburg Fortress Halls (optionally say: in Helm's Deep)

Also, you could also mention that The Golden Halls of Edoras are called Meduseld. For example: The Golden Halls of Edoras (Meduseld). :D

We had a poll author who retired many years ago, Drevnibor. You reminded me of him, and he's also from Serbia, which is a weird coincidence.

He made the first group of polls in my list of Middle-earth polls.

He was our Tolkien guy, so yeah, maybe you can inherit that title. :)

What a coincidence! I knew he made polls about Middle-earth many years ago, but had no idea he was from Serbia. Although, it makes sense because Drevnibor is a name made out of two Serbian words: "drevni" (which means ancient, very old) and "bor" (pine). So, his name would literally translate to "ancient pine". Since he was a Tolkien expert, I'll definitely inherit his title. :)

That made me smile. He told us about that. We used to have a thread on the old message board where you explained what your username and profile image means. This was the time before IMDb decided to disable all the message boards. Generally, things were more fun back then.

It indeed seems that things were much more fun back then... But then they shut down the boards and made up this forum... I didn't have an account back then, but was aware of the boards. Luckily, we still have the poll board here. :)

And, regarding the name thread, that must have been amazing! The significance of my username isn't really special. Vandurath is the name of that blue dragon on the picture. Just something I made up.

@Jessica Yep, a blast from the past.  I remember Drevnibor.  He answered a lot of questions for me about LOTR that I didn't quite understand.  I also enjoyed the poll board and making polls back in the old days!  Thanks for the reminder.

Another suggestion that you may disagree with, but....

the "inside of the human body" shots from both Fantastic Voyage (1966) and Innerspace (1987).  They are both fascinating "interiors."

You could list "The Librarian: Quest for the Spear."  It is the first in a series about The Library, which houses magical artifacts to keep them out of the world.  In the library, you find such things as Excalibur, the Ark of the Covenant, the Holy Grail, Noah's Ark, etc.

There were three movies and two television series about The Library.

Also, I noticed a typo: Helm's Deep (Hornburg Fortress Walls, #13) picture says it's from The Return of the King. It is actually from The Two Towers.

I replied here not to make that old line of replies too long and disappear again. ;D

I'd also suggest putting The Mines of Moria (if you're ok with LotR having 3 picks):

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120737/mediaviewer/rm1353704704/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk

Or Minas Tirith:

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0167260/mediaviewer/rm3893140737/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk

Or Lothlorien:

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120737/mediaviewer/rm314369280/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk

It's on you to decide is Lothlorien really an interior. It's one of the best examples how could a place look completely magical and from another world, but it is basically entirely in the trees without walls and celling.

The options for LotR are excellent now. ;)

But, I couldn't find any other picture of inside Hornburg. If the picture is too dark for you, consider using Minas Tirith from above. But I still think it will do the job.

@Vandurath and @Jessica :

What Do you suggest about the darker image? I'm open for your ideas. Jessica and you are the better fans, imho. So you should suggest better images for it, if you want. The better it is for fans, the better it is all-in-all. ;) I'd just need the text for the interior and which movie it is from.

I meant as real harcore fans that you both are, you should have the opportunity to create those LOTR options, if you want. Seems you are the best for it. So if you want me to change them, I'm open for it.

Hmmm. Considering all the LotR movies and books, this is how I would arange them:

Definitely keep Moria (optionally replace the image with this one: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120737/mediaviewer/rm1464310785/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk). Then, you could replace Hornburg with Rivendell:

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120737/mediaviewer/rm3292896257/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk

Or this picture of it:

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120737/mediaviewer/rm3102656257/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk

Or this picture of it:

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120737/mediaviewer/rm3326450689/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk

And possibly replace Meduseld with Minas Tirith:

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0167260/mediaviewer/rm3893140737/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk

Or Mount Doom:

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0167260/mediaviewer/rm288332801/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk

Or Paths of the Dead:

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0167260/mediaviewer/rm808360961/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk

I think that the paths of the dead would be the best. So, the final arrangement would be: The Mines of Moria (Fellowship, possibly with that other picture), Rivendell (Fellowship) and Paths of the Dead (Return of the King). But let's see what Jessica thinks.

I think the current image of Moria is the best one.

As for the Paths of the Dead, I guess it would be cool (if you're not claustrophobic) but it's also kind of a similar environment to the mines. Might be more interesting to use Minas Tirith or Meduseld.

I think this is good right now. Since the Minas Tirith image cuts of a little bit of the interior, consider using one of these:

Since the LotR interiors are done, may I suggest one from The Hobbit (The Desolation of Smaug)? :)

Thrór's vault in Erebor:

Unless you treat LotR and Hobbit as one same franchise.

Here's another one! The Ministry of Magic in Harry Potter:

Please also consider ... to give the LOTR-Suggestions a chance in further polls, the poll-series must be interesting enough to continue it. That works best when there are also much other interesting options. I work on it. If you have an idea, plant it here. And don't forget the maximum of 2 images of the same franchise for each poll. So chose wise. I try to spread the as good as I can.
