I've been through an annual exploration of British classics and I'm glad you included The Long Good Friday, Brighton Rock and the obligatory Michael Caine films. If I had one criticism though it would be in the ranking of these films, of course Guy Ritchie is the Tarantino of British cinema and perhaps the one who'd win the poll but it wouldn't be fair to the directors who preceded him to have two Ritchie films topping the list.

The way I'd see it, I would use that ranking:

The Long Good Friday (THE consummate British gangster film, even Watchmojo put it in #1 position)

Brighton Rock (the seminal British gangster noir)

Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (because there's got to be a Ritchie)

The Italian Job or Get Carter (to have a Michael Caine one)

Also FYC

Mona Lisa

I'm All Right Jack

The Lavender Hill Mob

My Beautiful Laundrette

I've put The Long Good Friday, Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels, & Brighton Rock as #1,2,3 respectively. I believe the movie that made Guy Ritchie be the Tarantino, deserves to be on top even if it wins by a landslide.

Added all, thanks for the suggestions.

That's the problem, Guy Ritchie gets one third of the votes, that's how severely unknown British cinema is... don't get me wrong, these films made my youth but it would be like "Pulp Fiction" beating "Goodfellas" or "The Godfather", what these results show basically is that among 100 votes, only 4 actually saw "The Long Good Friday"...

That said, I only discovered it last year lol

You're right but as expected, wouldn't have made much of a difference regarding the order. Guess people in general watch only what's easily available to them.

One of my favorite movie sub-genres, lots of favorite to choose from. I can't believe Gangster No. 1 and Layer Cake have no votes at this point.

Easily one of the best sub-genre.
