Quite a collection.

Check the list again: it looks like you copied "the Cheshire cat" into number 4, 12, 16, and The Great Dictator appears twice.

What a nice poll. 'Tough choice, too, but my vote will probably go to Winnie the Pooh or Piglet. Or maybe Kermit, lol.

May I suggest just two small punctuation edits?

...the man is simply a legend: I should say "was" since he sadly passed away on September 11, and this poll is a tribute to the man who made my childhood.

Roger Carel was the French Man of 1000 Voices; his incredible range of voices allowed him to dub some of the most iconic and memorable TV and movie characters of all the time.

English: I'm francophone so I had the chance to hear his voice in almost every of the character of this poll. I won't ever be able to dissociate his voice from Asterix, it shaped my childhood.

Français:

Je ne serai jamais capable de séparer sa voix de celle d’Astérix, ces films ont marqué mon enfance. Je me souviens de les avoir réécoutés en boucle chaque Noël.

Astérix, who had many different voices in Germany. I like the fact that Frank Zander looks like a real-life version of him.

We don't have a German equivalent of Roger Carel but we've lost many legendary dubbers over the last years and most of them died well before their time.

Peer Augustinski: Robin Williams once send him a little Oscar as a thank you for his dubbing performance. Both died a few months apart from each other. But Augustinski is missed as Cowboy Woody in the Toy Story movies, the new voice doesn't have the same warmth.

Arne Estholtz: Tom Hanks, Bill Murray, Kevin Kline

Leon Boden: Denzel Washington, Will Smith

Norbert Gastell: Homer Simpson

Randolf Kronenberg: Eddie Murphy

Wolfgang Völz: many characters actors such as Walter Matthau. Though he aquired most fame as Käpt'n Blaubär (Captain Bluebear)

Niels Clausnitzer: Roger Moore and Willie Tanner in ALF. I had trouble getting used to Moore's Bond because the voice was so perfect for Willie.

I dread the day when Manfred Lehmann (Gérard Depardieu and Bruce Willis) dies.

I'm not familiar with these names (as you may expect) but I can relate to your feelings. Many French voice-stars died in the last ten years, they were the pillars of our childhood at a time where animation didn't relate on casting stars to give more publicity to the film. The voice of Averell Dalton and Obelix died and so did the voice of Shaggy, Fozzie and Clumsy Smurf... recently, the regular voice of Bruce Willis passed away... Carel was one of the last remaining icons.

I dreaded his passing and you wouldn't believe it, I had 50% of the list already done because I wanted to pay tribute to him in 2017 before his passing...

ElMo,

Thank you for creating this poll. I am sadden to hear of Roger Carel's death. Unfortunately, I am unfamiliar with Roger Carel's work. There are so many great choices, so it will be hard for me to choose.

Hi, Dan

I guess the flip side of his legacy is that it would only be known by French-speaking people. At least, the characters he voiced, most of them, are known by everyone.

Here are two clips about the late Carel, a compilation of his most famous voices and him speaking of the most famous ones:

Yes, he had a smooth and soothing voice, I don't think he ever voiced villains by the way.

Hi ElM, please change "Poll Suggestion" to "Live Poll" in the discussion thread title and change the settings so that it appears under "Praise" now, rather than "Idea." Thanks!
