I think both Hannibal Lecter / Clarice Starling should be listed as co-leads in your 1990s Best Picture Leads Poll Suggestion. Both were regarded as the leading man and the leading woman in the movie. Both played important roles in the overall storyline. Both had nominations for Best Actor and Best Actress. The only reservation is that depending on how you count screen time (shared screentime), Starling had 2.5x to 5x more screen time than Lecter and that doesn't bother me.
1990s Best Picture Leads Hannibal Lecter / Clarice Starling
I am confused how only a day ago your 1980s Best Picture Leads Poll Suggestion had the exact same situation. Yet, you made the opposite call, why the flip-flop? Both, Puyi and Wanrong were regarded as the leading man and the leading woman in the movie. Both played important roles in the overall storyline. Both had nominations for Best Actor and Best Actress. The only reservation is that depending on how you count screen time (shared screentime), Puyi had 2.5x to 5x estimated more screen time than Warong and that doesn't bother me.
@Aris_Athanas Did you have a change of heart about modifying your 1980s Best Picture Leads answer option to "Puyi / Wanrong", based on the posting above or do you disagree?
FYC, I think there are more leads that are not correctly listed on polls in this series still. I think it would be worth your time to check them against some reliable secondary source that provides a listing of the stars for each movie and by extension who the lead characters are. It would catch a lot of the problems that seem to be slipping through.
ie. Mutiny on the Bounty is a 1935 Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer drama film directed by Frank Lloyd and starring Charles Laughton and Clark Gable, based on the 1932 Charles Nordhoff and James Norman Hall novel Mutiny on the Bounty

Liam Neeson (and I don't care for the man, but this was an incredible performance in a nearly perfect movie).

Hopkins as Lecter won Best Leading Actor, so it was considered a leading role by many. You don't agree?
