Live Poll: Which Locations of Horror Do You Prefer? - Part I

Your job is to make a horror movie.

What main setting or ending scene setting would you prefer?

I'm seeking for 9 more settings (25 all in all). They really should be different from the others.
Best suggestions will be prefered.

The List:

FYC:
An abandoned school
Inside of a huge mansion (Ignore this if you feel it's same as a castle)
I'll link some images later. :)

Thank you for suggesting. The places should be clearly different from other places I still have put in. Abandoned places are the one thing. School-places can be another thing.

It's about major categories, not specialized. So I took wasteland and desert in one place. If it gets to concrete in text, it's not suitable for my list. But the example image should be an typical example for the named category. So maybe you could give me an examplary picture of a highschool or something like that, which is connected to a horror movie? :D

I'd change it to Highschool, because it's more clichée-like. ;)
Let me know, if that's ok for you.
I've put it on the list, because I had it on my mind before, but forgot it.

For your consideration:
  • mine, cave, cavern, sewer, bunker, dam, silo or volcano
  • FOB, boot camp, refugee camp, internment camp, concentration camp or death camp
  • courtroom, throne room, senate camber, the stocks or the gallows
  • freeway, highway or bridge
  • plaza, park or playground
  • alleyway
  • cornfield, orchard, patch, sty, slaughterhouse or freezer
  • prom hall, night club or speakeasy
(Yes, I know you want screenshots, and I'll see what I can do to get them. Think of Stephen King's locations of casualties.)

Hello, Jeorj.
That's a lot of places. I will pick some of them which seem most interesting for me.

Just to note, for people suffering from agoraphobia, any place too far from their homes can be frightening: Intruders (2015).

Yes, thank you. That fits with #27 'The own home'

I'll take this to my considerations.
When I think of 'Paranormal Activity' ...'Insidious' .. 'Annabelle 2', ok.
That's a real good suggestion. I take it on the list, but tomorow. Gotta sleep. :)

8.9K Messages

I put it on the list, but with another picture.
I think the picture of 'Paranormal Activity' is much more frightening
and more memorable to younger audiences who haven't seen 'The Exorcist'.
And it matches more with your suggestion.

Yeah Paranormal Activity is a good example

Are you sure that photo for Triangle is of a cruise ship? It looks like a regular building.

The Abyss isn't a horror movie. Might want to pick something else...

How about inside your own or someone else's mind? Nightmare on Elm Street, The Cell

8.9K Messages

Yes Triangle is set on a big ship. I put another picture on the list. But it doesn't show the dimensions of the ship. Now it looks more like a cruiser.

If there was main setting or ending scene setting inside someone's mind, it could be like in that sinking scene in Get out.

added mind. I've put it together with dreams.
Or like in 'Dreamscape'. ;)

The Abyss is very close to being a horror movie.

Thank you, Jeorj.
I've put an image of 'below' on the list. It's horror on a submarine. It's ok for me, when Jen thinks that 'The Abyss' is not horror enough. I'm flexible. Got a head full of cinematic stuff. But my knowledge thins the more a movie is made earlier in time. ;)

You think so Jeorj? I consider it sci-fi/adventure.

Breumaster, you should do a month only watching movies before 1980! Or two months. :)

8.9K Messages

 •

Why? I guess, I've seen a few hundred movies made before 1980. :)  I've seen 'Nightmare on Elm Street' and 'The Cell'. They both played after 1980. I wanted to take 'Dreamscape' instead. But anyway - thank you for suggesting. :)

Hi, Stephen.
I put an image of 'below' - which I've seen -  on the list.
Do you think there are better images in 'Deep Star 6' or 'Leviathan'?What of the images of these two movies  would you suggest the most?

You have Skyscraper spelled wrong.

I suggest changing Prom Hall to Party - there really no such thing as a Prom Hall.

The picture you have for High School (which I suggest changing to just School, that way it covers from elementary to college) is actually from a dream, so technically... How about one of these:
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0146336/mediaviewer/rm3878197248
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1131734/mediaviewer/rm1303916032

Please use Jen as my name for the credit instead of yrnej. :)

How about an abandoned town?

And there's gotta be some set in a church.

You might change "places" to "locations".

I also suggest changing "bedroom" to "home".

I changed 'prom hall' to 'prom ball'. Do you think that is better? I could write 'a bigger party', too. ;)

I wondered about the suggested term 'your bedroom' with this linked image, but then thought Silitonga is right, there were many newer horror-movies where the bedroom also is an important scenarion. Best expample is 'Paranormal Activity' 70% of the 'plot' plays at the bedroom. 'The own home' might be better - I change that. :)

For school I took an image from 'Faculty', because the other two examples do not really look like school. But on the 'faculty' image, there is a blackboard in the background. That makes it look more like school. Other wise I could search in 'Scary Movie' on IMDb. Maybe there is a classroom image?

I put the abandoned town term to the abandoned buildings. I will add churches. That's a good pick! ;)

#28 or #32?

Think about whatever that event was called that Carrie wrecked with pyrokinesis.

Yes, the Image is from the scenes at the highschool prom of 'Carrie' when it's still not wrecked.

I changed the title, so it sounds better.
Added 2 more school options. What of them should stay? #28, #32, #33, #34 ?

Kicked the weakest option of 'a school' for the new option 'A specific town or metropole'.
The further option for 'A school' now are on #28. #32, #33, #34. If there's are special wish about that option, I'll take it to my consideration until 4 hours from now on. If not, I'll choose it myself. Other image-suggestions are welcome.
