FYC:
Paris, je t'aime (2006)
(also sorry for suggesting at least two movies from the 21st century on the 20th century poll suggestion: whenever my brain is scrambled due to weather or stress what little I have of math goes first and it shows extremely).

Guys if you want to suggest please keep attention this:
  • The movie needs to have a french production or can also be coproduction.
  • The movie needs to have a French element on the screen, for example: language or locations.
  • The movie needs to be well viewed, with 7 or more rating it seems fair.
  • And with 20 000 or more votes.

These details are for the simple fact that we are trying to do the best or that are almost there. If this does not have criteria, it will be difficult to explain the point of this poll.

And please, after following these instructions, give me at most three of your best suggestions that you think might be here.

Since all the 6 French 2000+ movies that I love the most are listed already, let me suggest if animation accepted:
Ernest et Célestine (2012)
Un monstre à Paris (2011) underrated to 6.7 thanks to English dub including songs was mostly used world-wide for localization...

The top 3 of mine among the rest non-animation:
Ne le dis à personne (2006)
Angel-A (2005)
Un long dimanche de fiançailles (2004)

If animations be accepted, I would stay on the above top 3, but sacrificing "Un long dimanche de fiançailles" to the benefit of "Ernest et Célestine".

They seem great.

I added your three non animated.
Thanks for your contribution :)

Further suggestions:

Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis (2008)
Chocolat (2000)
Un prophète (2009)
Le tout nouveau testament (2015)
La science des rêves (2006)

The "20.000" limit leaves no chance for the following great movies:
Sur mes lèvres (2001)
Mr & Mme Adelman (2017)
Le petit Nicolas (2009)
Le prénom (2012)

My further "further" suggestions exceed other limits of this poll the same way as it was in the previous XX devoted poll. So, may be it's the moment to stop )

Angel-A (2005) eventually got my vote. I totally forgot that movie while suggesting, but it is, indeed, a great movie.

SeventhAr7, is it not in time (don't know), but now I see the phrase "after following these instructions, give me at most three" in the whole context may be interpreted in different ways...

Did you mean "give suggestions and point out the top 3"?
Or was it "give not more than 3 suggestions"?

If the latter variant, I see no problem to delete my previous message, keeping the first with top 3.

No more than three suggestions but in certain way your top three movies that aren't on the list but you think could be in the contest for "best movies".
So, choose wisely... I think your top three it's good but if you want to change, no problem... You just only have to replace it.

If there wasn't too many persons suggesting I may include two more options from you. I want to close the list at 25.

Like you said before there are 6 of your most loved films already here... So, the question is add more three movies that may not be your top 3 french movies of the 21st but you think it's really good and need to here.

If I'm not wrong, if the six most loved movies are already on the list the others three that you suggest are in the top 10 favorite French movies for you??

I'm not going to change the "top 3" that is in the list already. All the rest mathemetics is for your calculation ))
If you need some of the suggested, they are here not for taking back ))) If you watched the suggested ones, place them as you wish in order. If you have not them watched, rely on the order as they are in my list. Le pouvoir soit avec toi )))

This is just a theory, it may be nearly correct or not.

I really like this poll!

Going by "most recognized," I definitely agree with the suggestions 'Chocolat' and 'The Science of Sleep:' I live in the States and 'Chocolat' was huge (and has a whole lot of votes) and 'The Science of Sleep' was relatively well known.

FYC: (Based on your "most recognized" criteria - but they're very good films, too)
The Class (definitely)
Cache (definitely)
Incendies (although this may be Canadian, actually: I'm not sure)

Chocolat (definitely)
The Science of Sleep

May I suggest one small edit? ('below in bold -- just a semi-colon instead of a comma)

Here are some of the most recognized French films of this century; which one do you consider the best?

I added three of your suggestions!!
The Class
Cache
The Science of Sleep

Chocolat was released in 2000 and 2000 it's part of 20th Century.

20th Century began in January 1,1901 and ended on December 31, 2000. So it can't be part of this poll.

Incendies is a tough but I think it's more a Canadian movie. Although I like a lot the movie but yeah I think it's more canadian than French.

Thanks for your contribution :)

P. S: I replaced the comma

"2000 it's part of 20th Century" - WRONG
The new XXI millenium started with the first moment of January 1, 2000. All people world-wide celebrated and have said "goodbay" to the XX century on the 1999 New Year Eve.

Well, that is not a fact that can be completely conclusive, for example until recently I also thought that 2000 was already the beginning of the 21st century.

If you research will get the conclusion that 2000 is still the last year of 20th Century. Remember that we society start counting from 1.

Exactly: "start counting from 1" - from the first moment of 2000.
Look, I've never thought it is discussable. It's just OBVIOUS.

PS: I would accept your point if only you mention the terms of production, but such basis is hardly measurable and Ameli may be also excluded...

795 Messages

No.. From starts counting with 2001 kkkkk this isn't a theory of mine you can check if you want to.
You're giving me even more reason on redirect me to this link.
Although the wiki is not a completely fidegna page the truth is that in this case it is validating what I am saying.
"The 20th (twentieth) century was a century that began on January 1, 1901[1] and ended on December 31, 2000."

Why Amelie should be excluded?? It was released in 2001 and that is first year of the 21st Century

It was a long text to put here, but now I see that all my life I was happy to think each century starts one year earlier... 8)
If I could live 300 years, I am 2 years older now ;))

Yes, your right, and I provided the link for this.

PS: but I did not suggest to exclude Ameli, just pointed the years of production.

PPS: really, human beings like to choose tricky ways... they start a new year right after the last moment of the previous one, but prefer to wait a year for a new century to come into ))))))) and keep starting milleniums from the first moment... different approaches to the time-matters.

MAthePA, mathematically it simply makes sense to count 2000 as a last year because otherwise century lasts for 99 years, which doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

You know, when crossing over controversal things in real life, I always try to understand more of an opposite logics... Especially in this case when I has to live with that, whether I share the logics or not. So, yes I did came to the logic conclusion before the moment to tell that SeventhAr7 is right on this important matter. The easiest formula to understand and how I explain it to others now (named it CCC): "Celebrate Centuries whenever you wish, but Calculate them as days".

Moreover, then I took some experiments with other people (world-wide; educated) asking them to distinguish the correct moments for a century and for a millenium to start... Kkkkkkkkk (as this topic-starter laughs) - the results went more than the two ways that I've approached before )))))
It was good for me to have the formula to explain them the trick of mathematics-vs-celebrations.

FYC:
Joyeux Noël (2005)
Persepolis (2007)
Home (2009)

Joyeux Noël (2005) is wide coproduction + deep international context

Persepolis (2007) - French language, main production in France, but contextualy 1/3 of France. Controversal in the frame of poll criterion.

Home (2009) is very good choice. Do like it.
On the same criteria, I'd like to suggest the top slice of documentaries:
Human (2015)
Terra (2015)
Le peuple migrateur (2001)
La marche de l'empereur (2005)
Océans (2009)
Unfortunately, Home (2009) and La marche de l'empereur (2005) are the only "20000" options.

Hello Peter, I have added two of your suggestions.

Home seems to be a documentary.

The other two I do not see an initial problem, as I have not seen the movies I can not judge anything ... I'm just saying this because MAthePA pointed out some problems, I think.

Either way, it will be added at startup... MAthePA can you provide me more information?? On which part that goes against the conditions??

Like I said the movie needs to have a French element (language or places)

... but the movie don't have necessarily to only this specific language.
... Even if the all story doesn't feature in France, it needs to have some space there.

Frankly speaking, here we have the situation when all the above suggestions being really great, all of them are not the same level as the top 3:
Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain (2001)
Intouchables (2011)
La vie d'Adèle (2013)
which initially are in this poll ))

I'd vote for Amélie Poulain, but logically understand the winner will be Intouchables...
C'est la vie.

It will probably be the main preferences, but we can't skip the others ... Sometimes a popular movie does not define the quality of the movie. In this case, they are very good because they are French ... and in generally French don't make bad movies.

... but concluding, we need to provide options for all tastes. ;)
