LIVE POLL: Technically, Oscar's Best Behind-the-Camera Filmmakers
As of 2026, "officially" only nine people: Josh Safdie, Sean Baker, Stanley Kubrick, David Lean, James Cameron, Alfonso Cuarón, Ethan Coen, Joel Coen, and Chloé Zhao have received three or more behind-the-camera Oscar nominations that include a technical category (film editing, cinematography, production design, costume design, makeup and hairstyling, visual effects, sound or another discontinued/special technical award) for the same film. Aside from those nine films, the Coen Brothers, Joel and Ethan secured quadruple Oscar nominations for their film, 'Fargo'. But, both were denied official credit as a team, solely due to the movie guild policies at the time.
Which person at least triple Oscar-nominated (including a technical category) for behind-the-camera work in the same film put forth the most impressive combined creative and nuts n' bolts filmmaking effort?
