Live Poll: Post-Apocalyptic Movies

Lunar eclipse in July 27, 2018 will be the longest total lunar eclipse in the 21st century. Also, Planet Mars will be the closest it has to Earth in 15 years on the same night.

Christian conspiracy theorists and doomsday preachers said that the moon will take on a deep red hue during a total lunar eclipse, an event supposedly foretold by the Bible and claims about the coincidence as the start of apocalyptic era.

My opinion, I don't really care, but like movies that set in post-apocalyptic time. When survival mode is on, its exciting.

“But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only." Matthew 24:36

Which of these movies that set in post-apocalyptic era is your favorite?

Good one!

I think you can include this part in the list as well:

"The Lunar eclipse on July 27, 2018 will be the longest total lunar eclipse of the 21st century. Also, Planet Mars will be the closest it has to Earth in 15 years on the same night.

Christian conspiracy theorists and doomsday preachers said that the moon will take on a deep red hue during a total lunar eclipse, an event supposedly foretold by the Bible and claims about the coincidence as the start of an apocalyptic era."

Quite a few great movies there: George A. Romero's Dead films, George Miller's Mad Max series, Escape from New York... Mad Max (1979) is actually one of my all-time favorites, but it's hard for me to percieve it as post-apocalyptic compared to sequels. It has a dread of something horrible happening any time now (and according to canon it ends three days before the nukes go out) while we se a personal apocalypse in Max's life. I'd say it's more of a pre-apocalyptic movie.

FYC:
Terminator Salvation (2009)
Doomsday (2008)
Cyborg (1989)
Hardware (1990)
Le dernier combat (1983)
When the Wind Blows (1986)
Wizards (1977)
A Boy and His Dog (1975)
The Day After (1983)
The Postman (1997)
Snowpiercer (2013)

Also you should probably add Escape from L.A. (1996) in the description of Escape from New York. It's a bumpy ride and guilty pleasure, but ending makes out for it.

I was also tempted to suggest The last days of Earth (2017) but I'm biased since I starred in this one. ;) Also it is more of pre-apocalyptic as well.

Thought about that too and some of the movies also set in the starting point of the apocalypse, its hard to tell.

Added most of them thanks. I'm not sure Terminator Salvation is in apocalyptic time, haven't seen it.

'Good poll! Of the movies I've seen, it's a tough choice but maybe 'Escape from New York.'

I noticed one typo: the word "been" is missing as shown in bold below.

The Lunar eclipse on July 27, 2018 will be the longest total lunar eclipse of the 21st century. Also, Planet Mars will be the closest it has been to Earth in 15 years on the same night.

'Good intro, by the way. : )

"Christian conspiracy theorists and doomsday preachers said that the moon will take on a deep red hue "

Typical lunatics. Who pays attention to what the fools are saying?

The PS is probably joking about what "preachers said", as in making fun of certain outspoken fanatical clergy people. Nevertheless, the bit about the moon appearing in a deep red hue at a view from the earth, during some kind of cataclysmic event, indeed comes from the Book of Joel, part of the Hebrew Bible, and as adopted into the Book of Revelation, part of the New Testament. These things are constantly alluded to by theists and atheists alike because how old the idea of "doomsday" is. With the advent of nuclear weapons, the space exploration and analysis of fossil records, it became abundantly clear that there is a modern-scientific basis to the prospect of destruction of roughly the nature implied by the many ancient parables. So, in a way what the fools say is indeed irrelevant yet overshadowed by other ideas, both older and newer.

"Nevertheless, the bit about the moon appearing in a deep red hue at a view from the earth"

The full moon often appears as a "red moon" and there are several of these in every single year. I kind of like it when I walk my dogs under a red moon. See this picture: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Full_moon#/media/File:Harvest_moon.jpg
