LIVE POLL: Oscars 2022 — Fan-Voted Favorite Movie

On March 27, 2022, two new open-ended, fan-driven awards, Fan Favorite and Cheer Moment, will be awarded for the first time at the 94th Academy Awards ceremony. The new awards will hopefully increase engagement from the general public, as well as, ceremony viewership by giving film fans some skin in the game. Voting is being conducted through an online website and through the two Twitter hashtags listed below.

Which of these select Oscar-eligible 2021 movies is your favorite and the one you most want to be awarded 'Most Popular Motion Picture of the Year' at the 2022 Academy Awards cceremony?

Live Poll: https://www.imdb.com/poll/vwQllJp9emg/

See the partial list of 276 Oscar-eligible 2021 movies that will compete for recognition as 2021's favorite movie as voted by movie fans here: https://www.imdb.com/list/ls033692354/

Vote #OscarsFanFavorite or #OscarsCheerMoment on Twitter or through the website oscarsfanfavorite.com until March 3, 2022.

@cinephile I like Don't Look Up. I think to win a film needs three things: 1) Be embraced by the movie going public, 2) Be seen by lots of people and 3) Be unique and/or match-up well with its competition.

I like the merits of No Way Home. But, I noticed the Superhero genre is very top heavy (five of the top eight most IMDb-voted movies). They might just cancel each out by splitting that voting bloc amongst themselves.

I think the strongest contenders are Dune and No Way Home. Indeed, there is a lot of superhero films this year, but I wouldn't be surprise to see an hashtag rally twitter voters behind NWH.

Personally, as a Canadian, I won't be able to vote in the category (my vote would have been Annette)

Well, I would like to participate, unfortunately it is only available for US residents.

@Pencho15 Yes, I understand the need for having terms & conditions, but it seem weird to exclude some US territories and not others. Plus, global voting would seem desirable, but I understand the need to take baby steps with something new. I wouldn't be surprised to see Jai Bhim (2021) or an Oscar-eligible Chinese film win, if the voting was worldwide. A billion voters can certainly tip the scales a bit.

These images were twice pictured on the Cheer Moments page. I could see either taking that fan award, although the better bet is the more widely seen Spiderman scene.

The Academy says you can vote on Twitter even though you can't use the website or participate in the competition.

It seems Camila Cabello's Cinderella is a strong contender for the award: https://www.indiewire.com/2022/02/oscars-2022-amazon-cinderella-fan-favorite-poll-1234701033/#!

While it is covered with option 35, given the recent news, it may be interesting to have it as an option on its own.

@Pencho15 Thanks for the heads-up. It is nice to see people taking an interest. I added Minamata (2020) and Cinderella (2021) to the answer pool and removed two options I thought unlikely to win a fan favorite poll. There is only a week left to vote, so there is something to be said for leading in the voting at this point.

The Academy just posted this leaderboard:

@Peter_pbn Thanks, this is very useful information. I tweaked the answer pool to list the Top10 leaderboard titles as the Top 10 in the poll suggestion answer pool.

Basically, the answer pool includes the Top 30 most voted IMDb movie titles (120,000+ votes). I added the five titles that were leading in the #OscarsFanFavorite preliminary totals (just three days before voting closes) that had less than 120,000 IMDb votes to the answer pool.

I cut other titles that had low ratings (6.1- IMDb rated) that had over 120,000+ IMDb votes to make room.

It surprised me, but it makes sense. Snyder has a huge following on Twitter.
