Hey Kyle, yet another good poll! My vote: Definitely Silence of the Lambs. Speaking of which, I don't know if it matters but Will Graham actually came before Clarice as well as after: He was the lead protagonist in Manhunter (1986).

Oh, I noticed a little typo: "Note: I will be excluding superhero characters, as the identity of these characters is consistent between sequels even if their is a recast of the actor portraying said character."  (there)

Personally I don't think you can call it a franchise if it is only two films. Should be three minimum.

For Elm Street you could continue with all the films.

I think Brian is the lead in the first F&F, but it is valid for the jump from 2nd to 3rd.

FYC:
xXx - Xander Cage to Darius Stone back to Xander Cage
Home Alone - Kevin McCallister to Alex Pruitt back to Kevin McCallister
Star Trek - James T. Kirk to Patrick Stewart (yes, it happened on TV first, but then it happened in the films)
Star Wars...?

I think I will stay away from Star Wars, as I'm looking at a true change in characters and NOT actors. Anakin Skywalker in the prequels was Darth Vader in a younger age, for example. I will add the other three though.

Thanks for your help Jen! Always appreciated :)

Silence of the Lambs

If you want this to be eligible for the home page, I'd move image #1 further down on the list (it probably wouldn't crop well) by switching it with #9, which seems like it would crop well.
#2 might crop in a way that leaves an odd image, although I'm not sure. A good way to approximate how images would crop is to put it in graph view just to check. (You'll see view options in the bottom right hand corner of the top/intro part of the list.)

'Good poll! : )

Kyle,

I recommend that you re-arrange the choices so that the first five images crop well. You can get of sense of cropping with this link:

Image #1 crops poorly:

Image #5 crops marginally, but may be OK:

Dan,

Thank you for the feedback. I've tweaked the order a bit now.

How do the first 5 look?

Kyle,

Thanks for reordering the choices for your poll.

The poll admins are trying to improve the chances that once a poll goes live that it appears on the IMDb Home Page. However, which polls appear on the IMDb Home Page is entirely at the discretion of the IMDb Editors.

Total Recall?!

Zoran,

In both "Total Recall" films, the protagonist of the film stays consistent throughout (Douglas quaid) even though the actual actor portraying him doesn't. I'm looking at franchises who actually CHANGED main characters.

In what world were the humans the leads in the new Planet of the Apes movies? The lead never changed cause Caeser was always the lead.

I hope you're doing well, btw. I miss talking movies with you. : ) Have a good weekend.

Silence of the Lambs was not the first film in the franchises.

Manhunter was, with William Petersen as Will Graham (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091474/?ref_=nm_flmg_act_37)

@CaptCarrot So, looking at it from a book perspective, we see that the first Red Dragon appeared. Also, in the Hannibal book, there's already a divorced and aging Will. In short, you're absolutely right, my friend.

By the way, Clarice comes later. The first book is Red Dragon, and we already see an aging and divorced Will in the Hannibal book.
