Live Poll: Most Convincing Filming Locations?

Sometimes we might mistakenly assume that a certain movie scene was shot either in the studio or in the place where the story is supposed to take place. We might be surprised to find out where it was actually filmed.

Which of these filming locations surprises you the most?

You can find the list here.

I think this idea is interesting in general, but there are literally a MILLION films that could fall under this category. Maybe you need to narrow it a bit.

Well, if for example Casablanca is shot in the USA, that's no good because one assumes those older movies were never done on location.

I could say the story has to have a strong connection to a certain place, then I have to lose Code 46, Mad Max: Fury Road and Lord of War. (Which may be ok.)

I could say the movie has to be a classic and / or has really shaped our image of a place. Then I have to lose many more. (Which may or may not be ok for my list.)

What do you think?

You're surprised Morocco has been Tibet? Well,  it's been Iran,Iraq, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Somalia, Emirates, Biblical lands, it's like the master key to any Oriental setting...

Not all poll takers will be as smart as you, to know Morocco has been Tibet.

'Good idea for a poll. I'd try to add more choices and diversify the locations as much as possible.

FYC:
Pittsburgh (Pa, U.S.) is the real Gotham City in The Dark Knight Rises

Oh, I think you've been around a while but if I haven't said hi and welcome to poll authoring yet, hi and welcome to the poll board. : )

You have a typo in #12: Middle Earth should be Middle-earth.

It seems a bit strange to include fictional places like Middle-earth, Tatooine and Yavin 4, since we can't really compare them to any real place on Earth. But it's probably okay, considering the question: According to your imagination, which of these filming locations is the most "real"?

Although I liked what you wrote in the first post of this thread:
"Sometimes we might mistakenly assume that a certain movie scene was shot either in the studio or in the place where the story is supposed to take place."

Perhaps you could also include that in the list?

I've now changed the spelling to Middle-earth. I must say I wasn't even aware that's how you're supposed to write it.

I'm glad you liked the wording of my post. It was the original description of my list as well. But I've changed the concept of my poll a bit because it was considered too broad and didn't get much response altogether.

I don't see how I can incorporate the sentence you mentioned into my current text. I'll give it some more thought. Suggestions are welcome.

Oh, what you have written is probably fine as it is. I think people would understand what you are asking, and that's the most important thing.

It's just, you have this line:
"sometimes a shooting location becomes more convincing to us than the actual place would be."

And since Middle-earth is not an actual place, but a place of fiction, I just thought it might be good to add something that indicates that there are some fictional places in your list.

But again, it's probably not necessary, it's just a suggestion. :)

New Zealand is the real Middle-earth when they are filming in real locations and not in green screens...
