About Taxi Driver:
Taxi Driver is not only my favorite movie, it is also the movie that has affected me the most, it gave me a state of alienation like no movie, no book, no song has done it, I fell in love with the underground world through which Travis travels through of his yellow taxi in a kind of descent into madness while the smoke escapes through the vents of the streets, and the cab splashes through water from hydrants--a Stygian passage.

my reasoning for Brazil as my #1: It's an amazing fantasy story with incredible visuals and great performances, especially Robert Dinero's cameo as the blackmarket fugitive heating repairman. It's the story of a everyman who is happy in his anonymity who finds himself chasing the girl of his dreams, literally, through the world of an oppressive government that controls everything and tries to control everyone. It holds up well after 30 years and stands the test of time.
