Live Poll: IMDb Poll Board Top Picks for 2022

Posting this sooner than last year to see if it helps with the number of participants. I'm just going add an honorable mentions link for titles outside the 35 limit.

Members of the IMDb Poll group will list out their top 10 movies for this year. I will then tally up the votes and rank accordingly.

My very early Top10. I mostly watch movies, especially those I didn't expect to be excellent, often one or two years after their release. So the half of it might be a poor mirror of what I would think is good in 2022. But ok, use it. ;D

01. Avatar: The Way of the Water

02. Lightyear

03. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

04. Death on the Nile

05. The Bad Guys

06. The Lost City

07. Uncharted

08. Sonic the Hedgehog 2

09. Jackass Forever

10. The Batman

(I didn't watch Avatar 2, but consider it to be the best, this year)

@Breumaster I mean it's not required to have a top 10. You can give your picks to anywhere up to 10. I'm aggregating everyone's movies based on how they ranked their list.

Literally NO ONE has watched that unreleased film yet.

@Tsarstepan

So it's unfair to release the poll before 2023, because there are movies released until the end of 2022, not only until October 2022. And I consider that 'Avatar 2' will be of mindblowing quality. Despite the rush of the Marvel's MCU franchise, there were no real franchise competitors to 'Avatar 2', so Cameron releases it so late. He's a clever guy. Love to him! :D

@Breumaster I'm not wanting this poll to go live until maybe a month into 2023. I posted this thread early so everyone is aware and can alter their list as time passes. Again there is no rush to make picks.

No picks from me here.  I didn't make it to the theatre ten times this year and didn't care for many of the newer films I watched on television.  I can't come up with a top ten at all this year.  I do know that the new Avatar movie is the worst film I have seen in a long time and I would vote against it if possible... and as many times as possible.

Another 2022 movie I finished watching just now is 'Amsterdam'.

It is really a good movie. It was fun. Definitely not how the IMDb ratings, box office or the critics describe it.

I enjoyed it and loved most parts.

Hi nab, it's so nice to see you on the board! I haven't been around in quite a while and before that, it seemed like a while since you were around.

I haven't seen many 2022 movies so far, and often my favorite films are released late in the year or early the next year, but I'm planning on seeing a bunch in the next few weeks. I suspect some of those will make my list. As of now, here's my list:

1. Aftersun  ('will almost certainly stay high on list)

2. Marcel the Shell with Shoes On  ('will almost certainly stay high on list)

3. The Janes

4. God's Country

5. The Wonder

6. Emily the Criminal

What I still haven't seen but am really looking forward to seeing soon: 'The Banshees of Inisherin,' 'Women Talking,' 'Everything Everywhere All at Once,' 'Glass Onion,' 'EO,' 'Good Luck to You, Leo Grande,' 'Agentina, 1985' 'She Said,' 'God's Creatures,' 'Pinnochio,' 'La Caida,' and 'No Bears.' Oh, and 'Tar.'

@rubyfruit76 Nice to see you participating in this poll, it's my favorite one to do. I've gotten a lot busier as of late, but I wanted to make sure I kept this poll series going!

I still have a few movies I need to watch from this year and Marcel is definitely high up on that list.

Yay, you saw 'Marcel,' too?! Everyone I know who has seen it absolutely loved it but so few people have been able to see it, unfortunately.

I'm so glad that you're doing this list again -- and that it's you that's doing it. It's tradition. : )

My revised list:

1. Women Talking

2. Aftersun

3. Marcel the Shell with Shoes On

4. Navalny

5. All the Beauty and All the Bloodshed

6.  EO

7. Decision to Leave

8. The Banshees of Inisherin

9. Everything Everywhere All at Once

10. Argentina, 1985

(The first three are essentially tied. I go back and forth.)

Note: I still have not seen the following movies that I really want to see and expect that I would probably love: 'Close,' 'No Bears,' 'Holy Spider,' 'The Worst Person in the World,' 'Tár,' 'RRR,''She Said,' and 'Cow.'

(I doubt that I'll get to see them anytime in the next few months.)

@rubyfruit76 sadly my theater never got Marcel, the movie is still on my watch list at this time.

I'm so glad that you're doing this list again -- and that it's you that's doing it. It's tradition. : )

Thanks, always means a lot when I hear people enjoying this poll series!

Oh, I'm sorry I misunderstood and yes, sadly, Marcel did not go to many theaters. If you're interested, the trailer is good and the original, three minute film from 2012 is on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VF9-sEbqDvU

(The original isn't nearly as good as the feature length movie but it's enjoyable, very funny, and its success was the impetus for the full length film.)

And yes, I do enjoy this poll series: it's my favorite.

My final* list:

1. Women Talking

2. Aftersun

3. Marcel the Shell with Shoes On

4. Navalny

5. Living

6. All the Beauty and All the Bloodshed

7. The Banshees of Inisherin

8. EO

9. Decision to Leave

10. Everything Everywhere All at Once

(The first three or four are essentially tied. I go back and forth. In fact, I go back and forth between the order of several, lol, but I won't make any other changes -- *unless I unexpectedly see another 2022 film and can't stop gushing about it.)

Note: I still have not seen the following movies that I really want to see and expect that I would probably love: 'Close,' 'No Bears,' 'Holy Spider,' 'The Worst Person in the World,' 'Tár,' 'RRR,''She Said,' and 'Cow.'

I've been to the movie theater a personal record-breaking 40 times, which is a testimony of moving from a village to the big city.  There are still interesting 2022 movies that I haven't seen, most notably All Quiet on the Western Front, so this list will probably change :)

1. Nope

2. The Batman

3. Emily

4. Everything Everywhere All At Once

5. Moonage Daydream

6. Bones and All

7. Top Gun: Maverick

8. Don't Worry Darling

9. À propos de Joan

10. Loving Highsmith

@rubyfruit76 Going to the movie theater and not driving are my two crucial reasons for staying in the big city, haha! Unfortunately none of the movies in your initial list of favorites were shown here yet.

Oh and may I recommend Holy Spider, in case you haven't seen it? It's a bravely feminist Iranian film :)

@albstein You certainly know my taste in film: I have been wanting to see Holy Spider so badly for several months. It was at one local theater for one week and by the time I realized that theater had it, it was already gone. The protagonist was one of the first characters I added to my "2022 Heroines" poll, even though I had not seen it. Unfortunately, I guess that I'll have to wait until it's streaming to see it. There are about seven or eight movies that I really can't wait to see but will almost definitely have to wait until they stream to see but 'Holy Spider' is one of the three I'm most exiting about finally seeing.

And I agree: movie theaters and not having to drive are two of the best advantages of big cities. : )  When I was in grad school, I lived in a small town for the first time and I was surprised by how much I really liked it but the worst thing about it, by far, was that there was only one theater and it was a multiplex with really small screens, bad sound, and it only carried American blockbuster movies. Even the popcorn was bad, lol. Fortunately one of my friends was a big movie buff, too, so we would sometimes drive three hours to see films that we wanted to see. We'd spend the whole day in the theater, studying in between movies. : )
