It is a bit of a quandary what to do with characters that were left in limbo or had no onscreen death. like Ilyn Payne, Ellaria Sand and Septa Unella.

Unlike "Game of Thrones" Season Eight Death Pool question it asks the opposite question and lists the thirty-five most popular, GoT characters still living that have best chance of surviving to the final second of the series. It lists the thirty-five characters with the most episode appearances prior to the season eight debut, plus the Night King. Amazingly, only thirty-eight characters have been in five episodes or more and lived to tell the tale, while well over named characters have died in the series to date.

Maybe Beric Dondarrion and Tormund both would be revealed to be dead in opening scene (after following the events of last episode of season 7).

I would bet against that scenario. It was a nice way to end a season with a great cliffhanger. But, it wouldn't be a fitting way for either warrior to die. I see both being killed off in direct combat. I also don't think GoT has a pattern of confirming viewers expectations, actually the opposite is true, where they always try to have surprising outcomes. Also, GoT is all about great death scenes, so just showing them dead would be a wasted opportunity. Lastly, GoT is efficient at wrapping up loose ends, so it won't be the last time we see the pair. Since, I think it would be unlikely they are just be shown dead. They will be either injured or be shown miraculously escaping the army of the undead. However, I could envision both being killed off in direct combat with this horde.

In a way, I am actually less curious about what happens in season eight and more curious about fan reactions to it. HBO has been impressive in handling hackers, keeping plot details under wraps and managing expectations, so far IMHO.

That said I am bought into the rumored bloodbath 'Game of Thrones' Season 8 Will Kill Almost Everybody, HBO Hints. I have faith in the writing team to keep fans off-balance, as well as, entertained. But, most of all there a couple mind-bending GoT fan theories that I hope play out too and would like to see a The Usual Suspects (1995) like plot twist wrap up the series.

As to the choice, its a crap shoot anyways, it is best to pick someone you are certain is going to die and hope he or she dies early on in the season or in the first episode of the season. Now, that the timeline has exceeded the scope of the books, one can't even use that as a guide. Before, one could check to see where in the story line that last episode left off and make an educated guess based on novels. Even, that was risky, as the story jumps around a bit.

My pick would be Eddison Tollett, chosen on the basis, the more North you are, the more likely you are to die, Dolorous Edd, as the acting commander of the Night's Watch, is going to be in the thick of things with the Wall breech that ended season seven.

Sansa Stark, according to the article has been given a 0% chance to die in season 8 by the author. What do they know that we don't????

As for whether it will be a minor, mid-major or major character, I would normally would agree with you. I think they would like to save a major character death to at least till the end of the premiere, by which time a couple deaths may have occurred. This season's shortened episode run and the the fact it is the last one, means all bets are off. Expect a zig when you are looking for them to zag.
