I'm not sure if a movie that only has one sequel is considered a franchise. Perhaps it's best to exclude them?

@Jessica

To clarify: A film franchise has been described as a film series which not only continued the narrative through sequels and prequels, but also included expansion through ancillary intertexts which could include spinoffs, remakes and reboots.

Technically, a film with only one sequel can be considered a franchise.

Even so, you want me to exclude it from the list.

Please confirm.

Since this description includes the plural form, I assumed it had to be more than one sequel film. But if no one else agrees, I guess it's OK to include them.

@GabrielFox Following this definition, should Ocean's Eleven be included? The 2001 film is a remake of the 1960 film starring Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. So that would mean that franchise did not start in 2001.

I guess the Lord of the Rings film from 1978 is related to the Peter Jackson movies in a similar way as the Tomb Raider movies and series are related to each other.

Maybe the latest Tomb Raider movie and series shouldn't be listed?

I didn't suggest adding The Lord of the Rings (1978), which obviously doesn't have a 25th anniversary.

My mistake, I forgot to delete it.

@GabrielFox If you have removed Alicia Vikander's Tomb Raider, it seems you no longer have any remakes listed or considered as part of a franchise (Which I think is fine). If that's the case then Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings and Steven Soderbergh's Ocean's Eleven could be included as the reason to delete them no longer applies.
