If you mean the one in The Grand Budapest Hotel, it's already in the list, thanks.

Not sure if you can use a Vincent van Gogh painting from Loving Vincent (2017).

And I don't know the context from this anime about artists and the creative process: Blue Period (2021- )

Then there's this animated biopic, Miss Hokusai (2015)

The life and works of Japanese artist and ukiyo-e painter Katsushika Hokusai, as seen from the eyes of his daughter, Katsushika O-Ei.

This artist drew daily life in a French concentration camp: Josep (2020)

A dying gendarme remembers his encounter with Catalan artist Josep Bartolí in a French concentration camp after the Spanish Civil War.

Thanks, added The Thomas Crown Affair, Mona Lisa Smile and The Last Vermeer.

Da Vinci Code was already in the list.

One specific painting should be in focus, so I can't add the museum scene from Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

Its your call, but I would advocate for Seurat's "Sunday" from Ferris Bueller's Day Off as being the most notable painting and touching scene of the movie. The movie has made the painting even more famous and iconic, as seen in these spoofs and recreations of the scene posted below.

@Jessica ,

I couldn't find a YouTube 'The Accountant' clip for the final scene where it is not just discussed and a reproduction painting is seen and used as a plot element. But, it is a recurring theme, metaphor and inside joke and plot element in the film. But, there may be a better scene in another title to represent the Dogs Playing Poker series painting, Coolidge's "A Friend in Need".

I personally like the touching scene where Coolidge's "A Friend in Need" is used to conceal a gifted Jackson Pollock painting. It is both an inside joke, a testament to the bond the two shared (a big deal, when one of the pair is a High Functioning Asperger's character) and a show support for someone who loves art, but whose father always told her that she shouldn't pursue her dream and that "Art doesn't pay the mortgage, young lady.".

I would advocate for the "Dogs Playing Poker" series, by Cassius Marcellus Coolidge" in some form. There is a long list of the series pop culture appearances posted on Wikipedia with the specific paintings detailed and media title.

I would suggest modifying the tag to represent another favorite scene in 'The Last Vermeer'

to The 'Christ and the Adulteress' trial plot twist

(Art forger van Meeggeren goes from being a Nazi collaborator on trial for his life to a national hero for duping Nazi leader, Hermann Göring.)

@Jessica, Here are some more related images and painting details for The Thomas Crown Affair' (1999) scene "Returning the Painting".

Thanks. Added the Accountant and Ferris Bueller as well. I hesitated because he only looks at the painting, but it does have an effect on him as seen later in the movie.

@Jessica The tag for #16 is accurate. Thomas Crown "returns" Monet's painting of 'San Giorgio Maggiore at Dusk' by creating a diversion by using a hundred confederates dressed like the subject depicted in Margritte's 'The Son of Man'.

@mariojacobs

Thanks, I added Glass Onion.

I'd rather not include paintings where the image is "alive" due to supernatural or magical powers. No animation or documentaries.

I don't remember the movie very well. Do the characters talk about the portrait or does something happen to it? If it's only seen in the background I don't think I can include it.

My suggestion would have been Portrait of a Lady on Fire. A heartbreaking omission.
