Good choice, I always love the classics. I was surprised to the see the following the team has for a single episode appearance. The have their own Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/HobokenZephyrs/ and you can even get a team replica jjersey.

I suggest you change your title to TV or Movie/TV and Movie.
A TV-Movie is a movie made just for TV.

You could add the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant team from the Simpsons' episode Homer at the Bat.

What about the main teams from A League of Their Own? The Rockford Peaches and the Racine Belles?

FYC:
Roswell Greys - X-Files episode The Unnatural
The WKRP team - WKRP in Cincinnati episode Baseball
The Bluth Company team - Arrested Development episode Switch Hitter
The OB/GYN team - The Mindy Project episode There's No Crying in Softball
The Sandlot team - The Sandlot

Just curious, where did you get that name for Field of Dreams?

Thanks, I made the title change on the list and added the X-Files team. I don't want to overwhelm the list with single episode baseball teams from TV series, so I have limited it to a half-dozen or so from the more widely seen TV shows. I also am omitting Softball teams: Bluth Company, OB/GYN, Ed's Bar and Swill, WKRP, Springfield Nuclear Power Plant, etc. and other baseball variants (ie BASEketball) from the actual official poll list.

The All-American Girls Professional Baseball League was a real league and The Rockford Peaches and the Racine Belles were actual teams. The listed teams are the only fictional ones in the movie that did not exist. I have listed only teams whose names and existence are not real in the poll. There are few other movie options in the list that feature a combination of real and fictional teams. As well as, some movies feature real leagues with a fictional teams playing within that league. I have omitted fictional rosters that are played on "real" teams to avoid any confusion (ie Major League, For Love of the Game). To qualify for the poll, the baseball team must feature both a fictional team name and a fictional roster that never played together on the same team.

The Field of Dreams name is a combination of the location of where they play (Dyersville, Iowa) and what Ray Liotta's character called the team in the movie when asking permission to play. The name is used as a reference point to the fictional teams on the poll list. The other team in the movie was the MLB Boston Red Sox and the moniker is also used to distinguish the "Old Timers" from them.

You might want to add a note to the League of Their Own as probably many people will have the same confusion as I did.

I just eliminated it as an option, to avoid the issue altogether.

Oh, I'd definitely put the movie back on, no matter how you name the teams or league. What you call them is a minor detail, I think (everyone will know who you're talking about) and I'm sure a lot of people would like to vote for them, and they were an important real-life team/league. They'd be my vote.

I agree they would have been a popular choice and the type of team and movie I like to root for.

But, it opens a can of worms, I would rather avoid. The problem is the three listed fictional teams in 'A League of Their Own' were window dressing, mainly opponents. The featured teams were real teams with real names, real rosters and real players. I probably shouldn't have listed the title in the first place, for the confusion reason Jen cites. I would have thought fictional would be clear-cut, but there are degrees and not a lot movies have purely fictional teams. Since, MLB likes the free advertising, fictional movies often feature fictional characters on a fictional roster with a fictional story line but use a real MLB team name. Some poll takers would consider them fictional, but others might not. (ie. Cleveland Indians - Major League, Detroit Tigers- For The Love of Game, New York Yankees- The Scout)

Oh, the fictional line-crossing is the issue -- that makes sense.

The Zephyrs, I think. The teams from The Simpsons crack me up but I wouldn't necessarily root for them, lol.

FYC:
The Oakland Athletics (or "A's") from Moneyball

The TV movie, Aunt Mary, only has 57 raters/voters so I'm not suggesting it, but I loved that team, their spirit, and the whole philosophy behind the team. I believe it was based on a true story.

Thanks, I appreciate the input. I think it is a good question, as poll takers root for different reasons; some will like the most talented team, others like the underdogs or the most comedic group. To qualify for the poll, the baseball team must feature both a fictional team name and a fictional roster that never played together on the same team.

Aunt Mary sounds like an interesting story. A quick check reveals it is a true story based on the life of Mary Dobkin. Likewise, the Moneyball team is a true story based on real MLB team and the actual real players that played on the 2002 Athletics roster.

Yay!  Thanks so much for including "Bang the Drum Slowly!" I hope people will watch the film, starring a very young DeNiro!  This team *is* the best b/c of a singing scene.

Great movie, an often overlooked gem. I agree it is must watch for baseball fans, De Niro fans or just movie fans in general.

What about Bull Durham? How did that not make the List?

Favorite Fictional Movie or TV Baseball Team

The Durham Bulls are a real team. The question states "* baseball teams must feature both a fictional team name and a fictional roster that never played together on the same team." The Durham Bulls are a real minor league baseball team that currently plays in the International League. The Bulls play their home games for real and in the movie at Durham Bulls Athletic Park located in the downtown area of Durham, North Carolina. The Bulls are part of the real Major League as the Triple-A  baseball affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays. In addition, the main character is based on a real baseball player also named, Crash Davis. While, the story and some other aspects may be fictional. They did not qualify for inclusion in the poll due to their partial fictional status.

Hi Ted Miller,
the best baseball movie was by far was pride of the yankees wasnt even mention
I agree that The Pride of the Yankees (1942) is a great film. However, this poll is about fictional movies or TV shows about baseball. The Pride of the Yankees is about the story of the life and career of famed baseball player Lou Gehrig. Gary Cooper gave a great performance as Lou Gehrig.

I added the transitional sentence, "Likewise, fictional movie and TV baseball teams earn similar fan praise with endearing characters and a compelling approach to the game." to the poll introduction to better help poll takers understand the scope is limited to fictional teams only. That will bring the number of mentions to five in the poll.

Which fictional movie or television baseball team* earns your support by being the type of team you would root for?

* baseball teams must feature both a fictional team name and a fictional roster that never played together on the same team.
