Technically the plague is not a virus.

cinephile,

As Peter points out, the plague is not a virus. According to the CDC (https://www.cdc.gov/plague/index.html):
Plague is a disease that affects humans and other mammals. It is caused by the bacterium, Yersinia pestis. ...

As such, it might be prudent to update your question from:
Which on these movies that depict or related to viruses is your favorite?

To:
Which on these movies that depict or related, to viruses or other infectious diseases is your favorite?

I would recommend against Ed's suggestion to include computer viruses. I suspect that there are probably more than enough films based on the spread of infectious pathogens causing diseases.

If the number of suggested choice exceeds 35 (or your desired number of choices), you can use IMDb's MOVIEmeter (popularity) or rating with a minimum number of votes.

I had considered suggesting changing the title of your poll from:
Virus Movies to Pathogen Movies, Disease Movies or Infection Movies, but your original title is more catchy albeit not as accurate.

I wasn't ignoring it, but when I saw his post I was busy since I'm also working outside getsatisfaction, I'm gonna rework my title later today (probably in 2 hours) and my description for "Disease" or "Infection".

It was not necessary to resignal me the post of Peter.

If you are adding other contagious diseases, then Shyamalan's The Happening could also qualify.

cinephile,

Thank you for updating the title of your list and your question. I updated the title of this thread and first post accordingly.

I have one minor nit-pick: please add a question mark after your question in your list. Thank you in advance for doing so.

Epidemic might be a better word for the title.

cinephile,

I agree with Peter that Epidemic Movies makes a title.

I think that Epidemic is a bit strong in that case, Some movies on the list depict a Pathogenic bacteria or Virus. But doesn't fit in the definition of an epidemic.

Epidemic: " Epidemic refers to an increase, often sudden, in the number of cases of a disease above what is normally expected in that population in that area. "
https://www.cdc.gov/csels/dsepd/ss1978/lesson1/section11.html

I checked on CDC, and I have difficulty choosing a word that would fit all contexts.

I think that the most general word that I can find is "Disease".

I don't know about the 'Planet of the Apes' movie because I haven't seen it and the description doesn't say, but it seems that all of the other movies depict epidemics. Most of them say pandemic or epidemic or otherwise indicate a quickly spreading pathogen of some sort. Many seem even above and beyond the epidemics that the world has actually experienced so I agree that "epidemic" would be accurate and a compelling title.

I don't think that epidemic could refer to Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw

The movie is focusing on the aspect of avoiding it to become an epidemic. When the events occur the virus wasn't already an epidemic when the movie began, It doesn't become an epidemic during the movie, it won't become an epidemic in the future, because the good guys saved the day.

Related Subject:

1) This poll is actually mind-cracking by all the complexity of the definition.
I made a research on another VERY similar poll https://www.imdb.com/poll/hQ3f0xVT-Q8/
I made a research on The Andromeda Strain, and I found that the "virus" depicted in the movie can reproduce on non-living substances.

However, a virus by definition can only reproduce on cells (something living) otherwise it dies. So you can come to the conclusion that the "virus" depicted in the movie is not a virus but a bacteria.

I don't want it to be removed, I'm just highlighting the fact that this subject can become really complicated when for example, you encounter a movie that talks about a virus as an epidemic while this "epidemic" doesn't fit the requirement to be considered an epidemic by the CDC.

This subject is medically more complex than I thought

I Changed my description.

My favorite virus movie: Outbreak. Of course The Seventh Seal also contains the plague but it's so much more!

Peter, in the city I am we have Schrödinger cinemas: they should be on quarantine, but only one seems to be on it, the one you'd least likely to suspect because it is a smaller one, which practically never draws a crowd large enough to be considered dangerous and arguably is less of hazard than a trolleybus.

In fact, public transporation seems to be far more dangerous than cinemas in that respect but no one will close that.

In Venezuela the cinemas also closed today, I had planned to go see Portrait of Lady on Fire, but the plans do not always go as expected, quoting Ki Taek "you know what kind of plan never fails? No plan. No plan at all. You know why? Because life cannot be planned. "

Someone suggested that they should do the same thing to cinemas as to football matches, go ahead with them but don't allow viewers.

joe siegel, you live in Venezuela? Is it as bad as in the news?

Yes, I live in Venezuela, Venezuela its bad in most aspects, I don't know how sensational the news in your country is but we are really experiencing a crisis that has worsened in recent years, the arrival of the Coronavirus is dangerous for a country with a system health as weakened as that of Venezuela, I think it was a good idea to paralyze everything, from schools to work, to prevent the outbreak of the virus, since otherwise it would be uncontrollable.

cinephile, in other words, cinemas are often more safe than some other public spaces, ironically.

Although here people are mostly reckless and unconcerned so far. Either that, or outright panic. No middle ground, unfortunately.

I didn't know that you were a teacher, ElMo! I teach, as well. : )

And my campus is closed, too. All elementary, middle, and high schools in my state are closed, as well, and I'm assuming other colleges and universities. I have to come up with a bunch of online activities and assignments for them, which isn't difficult but teaching seminars online? 'Not sure how that will work.

Good luck everyone and I hope you all stay healthy!

'Good poll and good list! Unfortunately timely. 'Very cool that you linked to the CDC.

'Seventh Seal' will probably get my vote.

May I suggest a teensy edit? (in bold below)

Which of these movies depicting a virus or another infectious disease scares you the most?

("scare" should be plural because it applies to the word "Which:" "Which... scares you the most?")
