@Pencho15

Well, I guess the Lady Gaga snub, isn't that the first time that a performance hits all the major precursors (GG, SAG, BAFTA, Critics Choices) without getting the Oscar?

@ElMaruecan82 Not that I know about, but even if it has happened before it is indeed quite uncommon.

@Pencho15

That must have been quite a shock to her... I'm pretty sure after the BAFTAs, she thought she was safe, in fact even the Awards pundits were questioning whether she would win the Oscar (taking the nomination for granted).

Oh and Tom Hanks was GG, SAG and BAFTA nominated for Captain Philips but no Oscar nom.

@dibyayan_chakravorty

I have no doubts she is deserved of praise and that her performance should have been considered.

But I don't think she was ever in the conversation or considered a possible candidate even by a longshot.

In that way, I don't feel her absence can be considered a surprise, even if she deserved to be.

@Jessica The French Dispatch added.

The link is working for me, I tried twice and found no problem.

Ah, I just noticed the problem. You have a second discussion link below Discuss here, which doesn't work.

Discuss Here. (this one works but I completely missed it)

After voting, discuss the topic here or take other Oscar polls here

@Jessica Got it, I copied the code at Dan's Oscar polls thread and didn't notice the second link.

Corrected now.

Difficult choice to make.

From Alana Haim being snubbed. I love that Nightmare Alley (2021) got a BP nod but hated that it got it without Cate Blanchett or Bradley Cooper acting nods. I really really love Drive My Car's four nominations.

Denis Villeneuve's snub is the most confusing. Nicholas Cage's snub stings like being stung by a yellow jacket ten times in the stomach.

(And not listed) Belle not getting a nod for animated feature is bullet ant bites to the eyes and soul.

I'm not surprised at Flee 's record breaking nominations. I expected that it would do extraordinarily well. I would have been pissed if Penélope Cruz wasn't nominated for what easily is one of the best performances from last year (and a personal best for the actor).

What the heck are Prayers for the Stolen/Four Good Days (2020)?!?!

I'll vote positive today and show my deepest love for Drive My Car. A three-hour long movie that definitely did not feel long and much deservedly made my top five favorite films of 2021.

We missed a big one: absolutely none of the 6 BAFTA Best Actress nominees making it to the Oscars... I don't think a 0/6 overlapping ever happened.

(BTW, the SAG is sometimes overestimated, just because Kristen Stewart missed it didnt mean she didnt have the live from the industry... maybe the Academy voters just got tired of Gaga's constant campaigning or maybe they were so sure about her chances they gave an extra push to Stewart)

As for Branagh, given the réception of "Belfast", he was obviously heading toward these nominations... missing them would have been a surprise.

But the BAFTA-Oscars thing was truly surprising... even Colman missed it...

Best Actress Nomination Odds:
@ElMaruecan82, other than Lady Gaga it pretty much played out as predicted this year. That said, I don't see any slam dunks in the group and I am even having a hard time separating the top five from the top forty. It seems to be a matter of slight degrees, rather than one clearly being worthy and another unworthy. I have seen a high percentage of these films and it seems a lot of other factors are involved in nabbing a nomination other than results.
