Live Poll: Best Nicholas Cage Movie

Nicholas Cage has entertained moviegoers throughout his years of acting, playing characters who have made us root for, cry and laugh. With the release of 'Mandy' coming closer, I thought it would be right to see what all you IMDB users' believe to be the best Nic Cage movie!

List- https://www.imdb.com/list/ls029946297/

Poll- https://www.imdb.com/poll/Ed-fxQRFuKU/

Dope- I realised I misspelt 'Nicolas'. It's been changed on the actual list.

Bad Lieutenant.

That's not a Nicolas Cage movie :/

Not the Ferrara but the Herzog movie.

Oh wait I didn't know there was another Bad Lieutenant- I was thinking of the one with Harvey Keitel.

By the way, your list still has some room so you could add Red Rock West (1993) World Trade Center (2006), Kick-Ass (2010) which are among his more well-known and acclaimed movies. :)

I've added the first two- the latter I know stars Nicolas Cage but I wouldn't call it a Nicolas Cage movie. In order to qualify he has to either star or co-star.

Kick-Ass follows the life of not only Dave Lizewski but also the Macready family.

Face-Off
Leaving Las Vegas
Raising Arizona
Sailor & Lula
Adaptation.

Please, forget about the chronological order, just start with his 5 most emblematic roles. Chronological order isn't that relevant when it comes to the listing.

Alright will do- although it will be difficult to evaluate which Cage movie I feel is more 'emblematic' than the other because that will differ from person to person.

5.2K Messages

 •

Easy:

Leaving Las Vegas = Oscar winning role
Adaptation. = Other Oscar-nominated role
Raising Arizona = his breakthrough role and one of his most popular
Sailor & Lula = Golden Palm winner
Face-Off: another popular one and one of his most successful 'over-the-top' films.

With these 5, you cover every possible range of movies and you know you're handling quality, of course, you can replace the Golden Palm winner by The Rock or Moonstruck, but any 4 out of these 5 would make a good panel in my opinion.

Alright I've jumbled them up a little to put his more critically acclaimed movies first- then his earlier roles, action films, guilty pleasures, lesser known films, etc.

Wow, ElM., I feel like I haven't seen any of Nicholas Cage's best work.

5.2K Messages

Yep, there's also the possibility for these polls to make it on the homepage (and it's far more interesting when a poll can gets thousands of votes quickly) but for that you need to have 'emblematic' movies in the Top 5, not necessarily the prestige ones but it should be a good mix.

This is my top 5 now:

Adaptation
Leaving Las Vegas
Raising Arizona
Face/Off
Con-Air

Con-Air might even be more relevant than Sailor & Lula :)

I don't know why did you post the declaration of independence on a discussion about Nicolas Cage lol

It's a plot point in one of the movies in which Nicolas Cage stars.

Understandable, as he has starred in dozens of movies. However, it is awkward when somebody creates a poll suggestion about a subject with which he/she is not more than, say, 75% familiar.

415 Messages

I have seen bits of his other movies and am familiar enough with them to create a poll. I thought I would create the poll as a tribute to his career with his upcoming 'Mandy' coming out soon.

James The Movie Guy, great! Don't let me get you down, though. I'm one of the few forum participants who have the most pessimistic views of the overall poll system of IMDb. I've never even participated in a live poll itself. I only happen to like participating in the discussions of poll suggestions, in as positive of a way as I can. Thanks for understanding.

All good mate- I love hearing you all out to see what new ideas you have to offer in order to improve my lists. Creating this poll has made me want to check out more Nicolas Cage movies- both good and bad.

By the way, today happens to be the last chance to watch Rage (2014) on Netflix streaming services (unless it turns out to be renewed there).

It's not on Australian Netflix. However, I've added Leaving Las Vegas, Adaptation and Kick-Ass to my watch list ;)

Thanks.
Please also include a question, such as: What is the best Nicholas Cage movie?

415 Messages

 •

17.9K Points

I've done polls with just 'Best' or 'Worst' before- but I've put a 'The' at the beginning which I hope fixes the problem.

'Probably Adaptation.

May I suggest just a couple of edits to the intro.? (In bold, below.)

Nicolas Cagehas entertained moviegoers throughout his years of acting, playing characters who have made us root for them, cry and laugh. With the release of Mandy (2018) coming closer, I thought it would be right to see what all you IMDB users believe to be the best Nic Cage movie! So, which is your favorite?

(No apostrophe needed after users: an apostrophe there implies possession so it would be used if there was a noun after users.)

Thanks. : )

Shame Mandy wasn’t in that poll. Anything with Nicolas cage howling like a dog is a winner

I agree it was absolutely fantastic! I saw it at the cinema and it was the single most trippy yet action packed Cage movie of them all! The crowd laughed yet it still had its moments of heavy drama- it's a future cult movie for sure. Although it hadn't released at the time of making the poll so I didn't include it.
