I haven't seen either but both look interesting so, now that I know about them, I'll check them out. It's great to find out about new series -- there are so many, these days, that sometimes some get lost on my radar. 'Great match-up.

STD (will never call this trainwreck DSC or worse, Disco) is a blight on the legacy and good will of Trek. Once finally over, it will not be remembered. When a show makes ENT seasons 1 & 2 look better by comparison, there is a problem.

Orville has Trek's heart. It has Trek's writers. Not knockoff hacks from the CW.

Amen, brother.  The utopian society of Roddenbery would have him turning in his grave as to what CBS and Bad Reboot have done to dirty the name of Star Trek. Back in 2011, Seth MacFarlane offered CBS a Star Trek with his ideas, they foolishly turned it down.  Fox did the right thing and went with the genius that is Seth--Seth Trek.

No, the Orville is THE ORVILLE. Star Trek is Star Trek. If Seth wanted to make a Star Trek show, he showed have gone to the franchse.

Hi Kevin Tinsley,

This poll went live over two years ago. Last week this poll had 608 votes. Today there is 1,469 votes.

I'm curious why there is a sudden interest in this poll. Was a link to this poll posted on a Star Trek forum?

JP from Egotastic Funtime brought it to a lot of peoples attention. Frankly, many are tired of these insane Drekkies attitude about the show being the success both monetarily and commercially when it is perfectly obvious that it severely lacks in quality at writing and acting and everything else maybe save their special effects budget . Has to be pretty to placate the Gen Z Ritalin masses . I’ll pinky swear on that

The Orville is in Essence what we all want Star Trek to be but with some humor added.  STD is in Essence an actual STD.. and not Star Trek what so ever!  Attacking a whole fanbase by putting out a shit version of a science fiction show and calling it star trek is an abomination

No, The Orville is a show for those who still live in the late 80s, where TNG was mainstream TV SF. We don't live in that world any more. If you want to watch TNG, don't watch the ORville, ...watch TNG.

No, we watch the Orville. STD is a pile of complete garbage in comparison. No use trying to deflect from the reality that the Orville is the superior property . Thank you for playing now. I hope you enjoy your lackluster television entertainment.

Yeah, gotta love the nonsense that spills out of the Gobshite community. What are you trying to say man? Because we live in a world revolving round the lowest common denominator, people who think anything new must be an improvement or progress.

As bad as most things are right now, I'm at least glad that people like you didn't get in the way of Star Wars or Indiana Jones, and dare I say it - The Orville. As others have pointed out to you, Seth MacFarlane tried to bring back Trek at CBS, but was sneered at by the people who ulltimately gave us STD.

The Orville is the worthier descendant of the Star Trek legacy. I'm not for sure what Discovery is, but it's definitely not Star Trek.

It's not even close. Orville has the spirit of Trek. CBS has never produced Trek and doesn't act like they ever will, nor do they have the desire to do so. Roddenberry and Paramount produced Trek. CBS makes dumbed down sci-fi for people who didn't like Trek, by people who never understood or cared for it.

Trek fans: watch the Orville. Then watch the old fan films back before CBS sued their own fans to stop, so they can give us an STD.

GreedBS rejected Star Trek back in the 60s and went with Lost in Space instead. Seems their logic is still the same.

The Orville seems to be in perfect balance where STD went wild on effects but cheaped out on actors and ripped off garbage fan fic sites for writing.

I do not know a single Discovery Fan.  That show was complete crap, the only half decent part of the show (Pike/Spock) have been written off the show.  They are moving forward with everything that sucked about it and even have  spin off of the SUCK in the works.

How about give the fans what they actually want, a REAL STAR TREK series with PIke/Spock.

I have actually spoken at length with a couple STD fans.  When asked about the other Star Trek they enjoy they said they watched TOS and TNG as children, tried a few episodes of VOY/DS9/ENT, and love STD.  When I've tried to encourage them to go back and watch the old series or finish the series they have started, they have zero interest.  I watch all Star Trek about once per year.  This is the difference between the fan groups, and why STD merchandise is non-existent. They do not have the same rabid fanbase as what the Canon Timeline has, which is why they're doomed to struggle on scraps.

I wouldn't vote for neither. STD is terrible but Orville? I can't understand the love for it. It's a bloody Family guy in space. It's SATIRE, and not very good either.

I was wary of that until I watched the first few eps. It has a joke or two, sure, especially earlier on in Season 1, but it’s really nothing like Family Guy in space. That negative slant generally comes from the irrational STD defenders (aka “Drekkies”) who can’t support valid criticisms of the show.

NO SOUP FOR YOU! (Had to do that. Sorry)

No, it is tone deaf. I understand it is a Seth love affair with TNG, but it as no grasp of nuance or how to deal with the themes. I have watched most of it, but can't get beyond 1/2 a show because, 1 the adolsecent humour, and 2.  of how they deal with serious subjects; the holocaust, segregation, murder, genocide, whatever, they go through the motions very a la 1970s.
In one episode they murdered a whole bunch of the baddies, like they were having a few beers in abar and in another, the went to a planet save a few of the epole and ...thats it. No remorse for the ones they couldn't.
There was actually one episode where they went after the holocaust...oh dear.

Discovery is not for us wh saw the original show. It's for the 21st century youtube people and world we live in.
