  1.  The watch that can stop time from "The Girl, the Gold Watch, and Everything," it's sequel "The Girl, the Gold Watch, and Dynamite," and from the remake "Clockstoppers."
  2. The invisibility cloak from the Harry Potter series
  3. The crystal from "Chronicle" that gives you telekenesis and other mental powers
  4. A light saber from the Star Wars series (a.k.a. The Schwartz from Space Balls)

Honorable mention (in case someone else cannot think of one):

5. A phaser from Star Trek

6.  The transporter from Star Trek

Palantir (Lord of the Rings):

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120737/mediaviewer/rm2230109953/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk

Sting (Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit):

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0903624/mediaviewer/rm1450810369/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk

The Elder Wand (Harry Potter):

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1201607/mediaviewer/rm2535704065/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk

Morgoth's Crown (Rings of Power):

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7631058/mediaviewer/rm1119840513/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk

Let me just say I picked Morgoth's Crown because I'm a fan of Tolkien's works, not Rings of Power.

Can you please replace the Palantir picture with this one:

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0167260/mediaviewer/rm3559693313/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk

Also, the title should be spelled:

Objects You'd Like to Have

Not: Object You Like to Have.

And also in the description:

The members of the IMDb Poll Board have chosen objects from Movies and TV shows they'd like to have.

@riverotter   I already listed that one.  I thought that I was one of the few who had actually seen and remembered that movie.  It also appeared (slightly altered) in the movie "Clockstoppers" and in the Twilight Zone episode "Paladin of the Lost Hour."  (the newer Twilight Zone, not the original)

I guess we should assume that the objects would have the same properties as in the films/shows? If so, I suggest:

The DeLorean time machine

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0088763/mediaviewer/rm3740086016/

Narya, the Ring of Fire

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7631058/mediaviewer/rm2163869185/

Vilya, the Ring of Air

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7631058/mediaviewer/rm1609631233/

(you can add them as one option if you wish)

The newspaper showing tomorrow news would be great to make decisions in life. Something as simple as avoiding places where something bad will happen and as big as financial choices.

The magic lasso is useful so you get the truth from everyone. I can't think of a sitaution where I would personally need it right now but it may be good to have at hand if needed.

The ring simply for fun. It allows me to fly and create things my imagination can come up with. But simply transportation would be more than enough for me so I could go to any place on the planet or even to outer space.

Jaf, in some options, you have the links to the titles the objects are (for example, the link to the movie The Girl, The Gold Watch & Everything (1980)), but in some you didn't add links to movies/series (for example, in my pick, Morgoth's Crown, there is no link to Rings of Power series). Also, you didn't say where are some objects from in some options, for example, you didn't say where is The Holy Grail from, or Jet Pack. And, in some options, you wrote Vandurath pick, or mariojacobs pick, and you somewhere wrote, for example, Breumaster's pick or Djesika's pick. Can you please fix this and add the 's everywhere, add links to movies/series (you don't need to if it's a trilogy or a franchise) in places you didn't, and say where some objects are (where that is not written), so that all options are consistent?

@Vandurath Everyone is free to choose what they want to write in their selections . If he chooses to write the name of a movie, I provide the link.

  1. Med bed (heals/regenerates everything) from Elysium (uploaded a better image to the photo gallery);
  2. Felix's hammer (fixes anything) from Wreck-It Ralph;
  3. Doctor Strange's Sling ring (travel anywhere on the planet);

I'll reserve the right to pick my fourth item in the near future.

So you would really want an evil object that is used for mind control and domination? 🤔

289 Messages

 •

4.3K Points

@Jessica

Well... I certainly wouldn't use it for its true purpose! That would be horrible, I don't want to be evil! I would just have it around, to let Sauron know he isn't as powerful as he was before (though I would be the target of Nazgûls, lol), I'd maybe try destroy it. Although, I might be immune, like Tom Bombadil. So it wouldn't really have a specific purpose, but I was thinking to put either The One Ring or Nenya. When I think again, I might go for Nenya later, but I'll see.

@Breumaster

Absolutely (except that wouldn't do anything to it)! It would be perfect to get some lava from Mount Doom, though they would be impossible! :) But imagine how good would it be to be the person who destroyed The One Ring, but that would be incredibly hard! Then, maybe be permitted to dwell on Tol Eressea until the end of your life (ok, this is the part only Jessica will understand)... That is actually the main reason I want it.

I always thought it's the aim to destroy it? I don't know what an Eressea is. It's Just the formula I posted solves Gold.

@Breumaster

Well, if you do not know what Eressea is, prepare for a two hour lecture about Valinor (just kidding, lol)!

So, the simplest explanation would be this: You know when, at the end of LotR, Gandalf, Elrond and Galadriel along with Frodo and Bilbo, leave on ships at The Grey Havens? Well, because Gandalf is actually a Maia, Olorin (an angelic being, in the simplest words a servant to The Valar, e.g. the gods, but the explanation what are The Valar and Maiar is a little bit more complicated) he goes to the part of Valinor reserved only for the Valar (Vala is singular, Valar is plural) and Maiar (Maia singular, Maiar plural). The elves (Elrond and Galadriel) go to Eldamar, the part of Valinor reserved for the elves (and the elves who died and are re-embodied in Valinor and live there until the end of days) outside the one reserved for The Valar and The Maiar, and those sections are separated by a hill. On that hill (Túna) is built the city of Tirion (not Tyrion Lannister, lol). And, finally, Frodo and Bilbo go to Tol Eressea (the lonely isle), an island just outside Valinor, because they are mortal.

2 hours ... you want me sleep away, I see. As I said I tried Tolkien it was the best anodyne I can think of. I prefer stories that come straigh to the point without ado.

If you still want to try Tolkien, maybe you can read The Hobbit. It's not that hard and more of a straightforward story rather than a million storylines. And an important thing: DO NOT read The Silmarillion if you were slept away by LotR books. If you don't believe me, here are a couple of arguments:

It spans over 600 years in the main part, plus around a 3000 in the fourth part, Akallabeth, but not that detailed, and 2000 years of the Third age before LotR and The Hobbit, bit it reads more like a summary, plus two shorter parts in the beginning.

Next, there are over 20+ important characters (yes), plus the names are very similar (e.g, there are two brothers: Hurin and Huor. Hurin's son is named Turin and Huor's son is Tuor) plus, only a couple of important characters are these: Finwe, Olwe, Feanor, Maedhros, Celegorm, Curufin, Carantir, Amrod, Amras, Fingolfin, Fingon, Turgon, Aredhel, Maeglin, Finarfin, Finrod Felagund, Galadriel, Beren, Luthuen, Thingol (Elwe), Melian, Hurin, Huor, Turin Turambar, Nienor Niniel, Idril Celebrindal, Tuor, Earendil, Elwing, Elros, Elrond, Sauron, Morgoth, Gothmog, The Valar: Manwe, Varda, Mandos, Vaire, Aule, Yavanna, Ulmo, Nienna, Lorien, Orome, Vanna, Tulkas, Nessa...

Need I say more? ;)

Perhaps option 3 should say:

Tony Stark's primary suit: Mark L (Mark 50) in Avengers: Infinity War
