A good suggestion, although I am striking out on finding a movie or series that is biographical.

Urb,

This is one possibility. Unfortunately, it has fewer than 5 ratings.

(2016)

  • Ada Lovelace (1815-1852) was the daughter of Lord Byron, a poet, and Anna Isabella Milbanke, a mathematician. Her parents separated when she was young, and her mother insisted on a logic-focused education, rejecting Byron's "mad" love of poetry. But Ada remained fascinated with her father and considered mathematics "poetical science." Via her friendship with inventor Charles Babbage, she became involved in "programming" his Analytical Engine, a precursor to the computer, thus becoming the world's first computer programmer. This picture book biography of Ada Lovelace is a compelling portrait of a woman who saw the potential for numbers to make art.

  • This striking, adaptation of Fiona Robinson's Ada Lovelace biography illuminates, with dreamlike whimsy, the fascinating life of the woman who became the world's first computer programmer and the hidden poetry she found in math and numbers.

FYC: Evita Peron, Argentina, and Mother Teresa, India, as Mothers of the Poor?

I considered both and thought Evita Peron might have some kind of mother of nation designation or Mother Teresa as a foundress of a religous order. They both failed to meet the standard set in the poll question.

Condition: "who is commonly regarded as the "mother of ...." for a notable discovery, a pioneering effort or inspiring a nation"

Measure: Multiple Google search results that match person with a "mother of ..." phrase in the headline or the text.

P.S. I could see them stretched a bit to justify making the honorable mention list (usually flawed or a less popular option), but not making the actual poll list. Bottom Line: Each person's mother of designation should be clearly earned and subject to limited debate.

Urb,

I had the pleasure of meeting Grace Hopper when the University of Minnesota Computer Science department held a colloquium with her as the featured speaker. Sadly, I lost the length of wire representing a nanosecond that she passed out.

'Great poll, Urb, and a tough choice: the results should be interesting.

May I suggest one small edit?
