Actors Considered to Play John McClane in Die Hard

During the long process of bringing the action classic Die Hard to the screen, a significant number of famous stars (of various generations) were mentioned as contenders for the lead part of John McClane before it was eventually won by Bruce Willis, a little-known TV comedy actor at the time. Which of these alternatives would have been best at playing the combination of a tough New York cop who's an admittedly terrible husband, easily moved to tears and responding to most situations with sarcasm that make for such a memorable protagonist?

@JackSlater4 Great, in this case it would be a good idea to add it to the IMDb as a reference for those that want to learn more.

Sinatra would have been 7-freaking-2 years old if he played the part!! Otherwise, I wouldn't know who to vote for. I guess I figure that out if and when this becomes a poll.

@Tsarstepan Yeah, there's a long weird story behind that. Basically, starred in The Detective (1968), which is a based on a book by Roderick Thorp. That book has a sequel called Nothing Lasts Forever, which inspired the script for Die Hard. So the contract required them to at least offer the part to Sinatra, who, luckily, turned it down. Maybe if it had been 20 or 30 years earlier, Ol' Blue Eyes as John McClane might have had something to it. I don't know. Fun to speculate, anyway.

Jack, This was great: Good Going.

For hard-nosed about half the actors listed would work, but the comedic-stress skills are limited to about 3 actors and only 1 in both categories: Harrison Ford might have pulled it off.  If you are a traveler, I saw the poster for the first Die Hard in Japan and it's descriptive comment said: "He Has No Shoes."

That was 'it' so I am judging that running around barefooted is quite off beat to the country.

I can certainly appreciate what Bruce's Family is going through.  My father had a fall in the house, clipping his head on a door knob on the way down. Examination showed him bleeding from both ears.  After surgery he could no longer speak. Speech therapy was able to get somethings working, but his thoughts were never stable. Within 6 months his wife died.  He was a wreck - he was forcibly retired - which nearly killed him.  It never got any better and he began to blame everyone else until no one could be around him. He remarried: a woman who just wanted to live off of him, but she did take care of him. He died a few years later and no one was notified nor had heard from him in 4 years.  So I know what is happening and how difficult it is. My prayers are with Bruce and his family.
