@Breumaster Hi Breu, If you change your mind and go with 'Naked,' I'll take 'Ballad of Buster Scruggs.' : )

Ruby, you can have Buster Scrugs. I would take Mudbound instead.

1922 and Death Note are also good movies. I wonder that TsarStepan didn't pick Death Note. I would have suspected him to do.

What super annoys me is that Netflix isn't a keyword used on IMDb to indicate which project is a Netflix production. There's no real obvious way to search IMDb for Netflix movies.

For now:

Correct. This is expressly prohibited by the keyword guidelines:

Unacceptable keywords

  • Production Company - The production company for a title will not be accepted as a keyword (e.g.  amazon-studios)
  • Distribution Company - The distribution company for a title will not be accepted as a keyword (e.g.  netflix)

Source: https://help.imdb.com/article/contribution/titles/keywords/GXQ22G5Y72TH8MJ5?ref_=helpms_helpart_inline#unaccept

There's no real obvious way to search IMDb for Netflix movies.

This is not exactly correct, although I guess it may depend on your definition of "real obvious."

Here is a search that will show all titles where Netflix is an associated company. Granted, this won't be limited to "original"/"exclusive" Netflix productions:

https://www.imdb.com/search/title/?companies=co0144901

And if you want to narrow that search further using keywords and genres, you can do so by tinkering manually with the search parameters.

For example, here are all Netflix-associated titles with the keyword "Christmas":

https://www.imdb.com/search/title/?keywords=christmas&companies=co0144901

Here are all Netflix-associated feature films:

https://www.imdb.com/search/title/?companies=co0144901&title_type=movie

In fact, the reason why "netflix" is not allowed as keyword is because these other types of searches can be done.

Search by Language Netflix Original Films

Another option to search for Netflix Original Films, but obviously lacks the ability to sort by IMDb rating, IMDb votes, IMDb genre, IMDb popularity, etc.. Plus, while more of one-stop-shopping option, these lists are incomplete too.

You can search Netflix movies on IMDb using IMDb's Advanced Title Search feature.

Netflix is registered on IMDb's database using id co0144901.

For Netflix productions, if you are looking for an exhaustive list bereft of false positives, then you may have to settle for visiting https://contribute.imdb.com/updates/edit?update=co0144901:production_companies.correct while signed into IMDb. The truth of the matter is that IMDb doesn't actually provide any other way to narrow down the criteria like this.

The problem with the content of https://www.imdb.com/search/title/?companies=co0144901 is that it includes reference to works which were neither commissioned nor produced by the Netflix company but simply happened to be available on the Netflix streaming service at one time or another as a technicality of distribution. The content of https://contribute.imdb.com/updates/edit?update=co0144901:production_companies.correct narrows down the criteria considerably, which is helpful in the sense that the distribution credits leave it completely ambiguous as to whether or not a particular movie, short movie, music video, show, episodic show or special presentation was originally released by the Netflix company in some capacity (whether as limited theatrical public screening or on optical disc or streamed). Granted there is a possibility that Netflix is improperly tagged as a distributor on some IMDb title pages, as in being ineligible for credit, but I'm not familiar enough with IMDb policy on the matter to know for sure. I should imagine that distribution credits (which are not guaranteed to be represented in the on-screen credits sequences) can only pertain to original releases and distinctive re-releases (or remaster releases), but I don't know.

That's a good movie, but it does not appear to be a Netflix original movie.

Some interesting Netflix original movies that have yet to be selected as a favorite by anyone yet are: Bright, Mank, Tick, Tick, Boom!, The Power of the Dog, White Tiger, Gray Man, Ma Randy's Black Bottom, Mudbound to name a few. Plus, a long list of documentaries, like 13, American Factory and Crop Camp.

My favorites (that I know of, at least) are Ballad of Buster Scruggs, The Irishman, Pieces of a Woman, and Roma, all of which have been chosen.

Breu, who chose 'Buster Scruggs' mentioned 'Naked,' as well, so if he switched to 'Naked,' I'll take 'Buster Scruggs.' Otherwise, I'm going to have to do some searching. I liked 'The Half of It' but it's not in the same league as the four I mentioned above. Hmmm... I'll do some digging.

I didn't know 'Da Five Bloods' was a Netflix Original but thanks to Urb, now I do. I'll go with 'Da Five Bloods.'

I do not know what is happening with Netflix recently. I am not following the news. But, I found their original films, and their catalogue in general, dreadful.
