Favorite Fictional U.S. Navy Movie Character?

Americans "officially" honor, celebrate and remember everyday heroes of the U.S. Navy every October. The United States Navy bookends the celebration during the month by claiming October 13, 1775, as the date of its birthday (official establishment), when the Second Continental Congress passed a resolution creating the Continental Navy. Two weeks later, U.S. Navy Day is celebrated as another naval legacy date, celebrated unofficially every year on the 27th of October to wrap up the celebrations. Throughout October, the many accomplishments the USN has made over the past quarter millennium are highlighted. In celebration of the two dates, and in honor of the fictional and real heroes of the U.S. Navy and its forerunner, the U.S. Continental Navy, a set of USN movie character polls.

@mariojacobs Thanks, I originally had him listed, but removed him because he is not an active duty USN officer, nor is the ship a U.S. Navy ship, nor are the crew working for the the U.S. Navy. I had lots of alternative choices, whose connections to the U.S. Navy were more clear cut and less clouded.

"Nelson retired from the active-duty Navy at some point prior to the beginning of the series (and the film), and formed the Nelson Institute of Marine Research, which is headquartered in Santa Barbara, California. In this capacity, he designed and built the 400+ foot USOS Seaview in the film, later designated as SSRN Seaview in the TV series, which is the world's only privately owned and operated nuclear Submarine. ... Marine research is intended to be the primary mission of USOS Seaview (for United States Oceanographic Survey, and in the motion picture, under the authority of the Bureau of Marine Exploration). However, she is listed as a Naval Reserve vessel, and is automatically drafted into active service as the US Navy deems necessary. As such, her crew is composed entirely of retired or reserve naval personnel."
