I always like Hans Zimmer in general, but looking at this poll I can't help but wonder, why Christopher Nolan stopped working with David Julyan that often.

But that's just me and I'm obsessed, among other things, with close collaborators who were there from the very start or almost very start. Like, if you look at David Lynch, right from the start he often cast Jack Nance (until he died Nance was only absent from a Lynch feature film once), collaborated with Alan Splet on sound (there are notable gaps, but overall they last collaborated just before Splet died in 1994, doing a stereo mix for theatrical re-release of Eraserhead), Jack Fisk and Catherine E. Coulson (yet again, collaborations of different kinds were there since early shorts and until she died in 2015). I really wonder, why in some cases friendship+collaboration bonds last until one of the persons dies and some just die off. Latter always seems like director at least partially forgetting one's own roots and shifting identity in favor of more commercial projects. Not that it's bad or anything, just a sad sight for me personally.

I suspect that it is in part, a studio decision. It is probable that Warner wanted more experienced composers on the score of Batman Begins. After all, Batman Begins was a "Yes Man" movie, I'm not sure that Nolan had a word on that.

cinephile, that happens, but I always remember that great bit from a movie The Big Picture (1989) (a must, by the way, great portrait of studio filmmaking from the perspective of a young indie director trying his first gig), when Kevin Bacon's Nick Chapman always says to hsi frand, cinematographer Emmet, who did his award-winning short, that he fought hard for him, when he actually didn't. The moment when he actually admits that and the fact that after sevral opportunities blow Chapman would rather have budget cuts than have anyone else film that, even celebrated Oscar-winning cinematographer is just great.

I'm not blaming Nolan or anything, after all, Julyan might've had some scheduling conflicts preventing him from doing it... But as a filmmaker, I'd rather have miniscule budgets most of my life than studio projects not allowing me to work with people whom I know I can't trust creatively, most of them being my good friends, as well.
