The title and question are a little unclear. We can guess at box office success, but "best" has to do with quality.

@Peter_pbn I think that is fair, I need to be clearer and more direct in the question I am asking. I want to ask which movie will be the biggest surprise of year and will most exceed everyone's expectations.

As far as, biggest total box office from among the 2026 releases, the smart money is on Avengers Doomsday.

In your opinion, which of these select American-produced 2026 movies*, that is projected to be among the leaders in global box office receipts during its initial theatrical run, is most likely to exceed the film's already high expectations at the box office.

I'll keep it simple. You should at least remove Mercy (and whatever films that bomb at the box office if they bomb before this is published). If nothing else taking Mercy off of the list, you'll get a nice even 30 options. 😋

@Tsarstepan Thanks, good suggestion. Plus, Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan: Ghost War moved to a Prime Video only release on May 20th (Wednesday).

@urbanemovies

Maybe you should also skip "Best" in the title:

@Jessica I removed the best reference as changed the title from "American-Produced 2026 Projected Blockbuster Biggest Surprise" to  "Which 2026 Movie Will Exceed Your Expectations? [American-Produced]".

I hope it will be Avengers: Doomday. - And not just another cashcow. I hate how they treated the franchise after Avengers: Endgame, which was pretty cool until then. After ruining the Cap America part, I didn't like it so much then. Just the Spider-Man movies, the Dr. Strange movies and some of the TV-series were watchable. But it got worse. The beginning of the downfall for me was The Eternals. I didn't like that movie. For me it was the most boring cashcow in the franchise. Skip!

It's kind of obvious and funny that many voters don't understand the MAIN PART OF THE question [among the leaders in global box office receipts during its initial theatrical run].

Too many people are already voting for The Bone Temple and The Bride when both have lost $tens of millions (possible $100M each depending on your box office math) and both are already out of the top 10 box office films this early in the year.

@Tsarstepan, I thought the voting results are interesting with seven of the twelve films grossing over $100M so far being internationally produced.

The substantial Chinese box office totals in the 2020s, the huge rise in Chinese theater counts and better domestically produced films the past few years are a couple reasons why the world top 25 will have more one Chinese film listed at year's end. The same applies to Indian cinema (somewhat undercut by the fragmentation based on differing national languages). Each country with a billion potential customers should be getting more votes, IMHO.

P.S. That doesn't factor the great films coming out of Japan, South Korea, U.K. and other countries that are somewhat handicapped by a smaller domestic audience that could land a great film that has global appeal.
