Ratings: Show season ratings for TV series.

In general the rating system work good BUT imho the rating system for series could be improved offering the possibility to vote also for a season rating which could be shown (A) in the main page of a series WITH the "overall rating" or (B) in the main page of ratings, which could be easier (you can already rate the single episodes but that rating is not so visible since you can see it only on the episode page). Why do this? Example: a series like "The Sopranos" has a global rating of 9.2 and would easily get a rating for every season between 9 and 9.5; BUT a series like "Lost" could easily have a very high rating for the first two seasons (possibly over 9) and then the rating would start to fall significantly. (IMHO)I thnk this kind of information a little bit more detailed about the series could be helpful.

I would be interested to see rating by seasons for TV series.

Series like True Detective or Fargo with seasons that are not really following each other could benefit from that.

Is there a reason this is not done already?

Probably because a Season does not have a page on IMDb. It's merely a filter on the Episode page.

Ratings by seasons for TV series
Would you please consider making a rating per season for the series and not only for the individual episodes.

You can rate individual shows, and you can rate a whole tv series, I think it would be better if you added the functionality to rate a season... eg game thrones season 1 - 9, games of thrones season 8 - 7

So I have an idea for specialising the series on the site. We have votes but the current votes work for the entire series so I suggest a change is made and every single season of a series has its own rating. For example imagine a series that has 4 season and the first season is not that appealing to the people so they give low rating but next seasons are better due to the gained box office of the first one or whatever so the second season deserves a higher rating.

I know, there have been discussions about "rate TV-Series by season" and the ideas has been neglected - regrettably.

BUT with Anthology-Style TV-Series like True Detective or American Horror Story, you should probably think again. I see two possibilities:
1) Let People vote by season (it makes more sense then vote by episode)
2) Let every Season be it's own TV-Series in IMDB

As 1 has been neglected I would suggest No 2. So "AHS: Coven" will be one TV-Series in IMDB and "AHS: Asylum" a different one, just like Harry Potter 7 Pt1 and Pt2.

I think it's important, because many people think that Coven is great but Asylum is just ok, besides there are different characters, different actors, how could that be represented with ONE TV-Series Vote? After all these two ARE seperated TV-Series just under the same franchise.

After all, you would not have to change anything in the code of the site, just treat the seasons of an Anthology-Series like separate TV-Shows by using the subtitle. Easy solution (at least for the future). What do you think?

Hi, long time IMDb-user here.

I have two suggestions, I can't find any other place than here to post them, hope this is the right place.

1) Ability to rate tv seasons.
Reasons:

A) E.g 'Friends', 'The Simpsons' or 'Two and a Half Men', the first seasons were fantastic but as the show continues metal fatigue sets in and the shows is a parody of itself. This means that the overall rating is based on it's good season and as people stop watching or lack interest, they don't correct it

B) TV anthology shows: e.g. 'The Terror', 'True Detective' or 'American Horror Story' where one season can be really to one's liking set in one time-period and another completely different - Then the rating is really misleading.
_____________________________________________________________

2) Make two new sub-category for actors/actresses. 'Voices' and/or 'Videogame'

Reasons:

A) If one scroll down through an actor/Actress credits, and they have made voice-overs or dubbing its tiresome and annoying to find the movie/tvshow where they actually act. e.i 'Adam Sandler' 80 acting credits but 9 is voice-overs or 'Hank Azaria' 97 credits but more than 40 are voice-overs

B) Same as above, Videogames, has nothing to do with acting.

Dear Karen,

you clearly misunderstood my intentions, or they were lost somehow.. I don't want to belittle voice-overs or dubbing.

I ask for a subcategory for that exactly metier. But if you scroll down an actor/actress credits to seek a certain movie or tv-show  and 1/5 or 1/3 of the credits are voice-overs, the list isn't coherent, it gets muddled and its tiresome and annoying. The Idea of a database is that you get the data you seek - quickly.

Hi Karen,

Now it seems like you want to misunderstand me. I'm talking about improving the IMDb credit list, and how it's tiresome to sort out, when the info contains acting, voice-overs for movies, voice-overs for video-games and dubbing in same category as acting.

Its clearly two different job descriptions to be 1) a visual actor or 2) an audio artist. So obviously IMDb should have a sub-category for each. The same person can obviously be able of both, as well as directing. That's why I suggest this improvement.

Yes, I wrote "where they actually act.", and 99.9% would get what i meant. According to Merriam Webster: Acting definition is - the art or practice of representing a character on a stage or before cameras.

One does not have to read my mind, just need to read what I wrote.

Do you agree/disagree on my suggestions about having a sub-category/category for each job description or do you have any input on my suggestion, I much rather talk about that.

Season ratings have been suggested before. It may be advantageous to edit your post to focus on the other suggestion and put that topic in the subject field.

'Voice' should be a new sub-category for actors/actresses.

This is indeed one of the biggest missed feature in iMDB TV.
iMDB may have its reason for not having this feature but at least there can be a mechanism where the ratings of all the individual episodes are taken for that particular season and its arithmetic mean is shown as the seasons rating.

This does have a down side, which is not many users vote for individual episodes as they do for the entire season.

But maybe just maybe this might change the trend. The necessity of having a rating for each season and to find out that , rating episodes is the only way might motivate us to rate the episodes as well.

In many of TV series, the quality of each season may totally different from each other. even in notables like GOT and Prison break and...
Why can't rate the individual seasons in the same way that rating each episode?

Example: The Last of Us, season 1 (9/10), season 2 (7/10). I would love to see a feature that allows each season to be rated separately, as rarely does a season's rating match or outperform the previous one, in my opinion. Looking forward to seeing TV shows such as Daredevil, where the new season "Born Again" has its rating. I’d like to suggest adding a feature that allows users to rate an entire season of a series. Currently, we can only rate individual episodes or the full series, but not specific seasons. Many users would benefit from being able to rate a season as a whole, especially when the quality or experience varies across different seasons. This feature would provide more accurate feedback and help viewers better understand the progression of a series. IMDb's overall series rating offers a broad view of audience reception, but it often masks the evolving quality of a show across seasons. With shifts in storytelling, performance, and production, many series experience highs and lows that deserve recognition. Adding **season-wise ratings** alongside the overall score would: - Provide clearer insights into a show's progression - Help viewers decide where to begin or whether to continue watching - Complement existing episode ratings with richer context This enhancement would support more informed viewing and elevate IMDb's value as a resource for television evaluation. Please add the ability to review and rate individual TV show seasons separately on IMDb. Right now, we can only rate the whole series or single episodes. This feature would help give more accurate feedback about each season. Is this planned? We really need a way to rate seasons of TV shows instead of just episodes. The simple fact is one season of a TV show can be so drastically different than others. For example, Game of Thrones has a rating of 9.2, which is wild because of how poor the last couple of seasons are and would be rated significantly lower if it was broken down by seasons. Giving an entire TV show a rating makes absolutely no sense, and neither does giving a rating to one episode at a time only. In real life people talk about how good a TV show is in general, how good or bad each season is, and very rarely how good or bad a specific episode is. Rating season is so much more important than rating each episode.
