Live Poll: Frances McDormand vs. Frances McDormand vs. Frances McDormand

Only forty-three actors have ever won two or more Oscars for acting performances. Even more remarkable is that only six had ever won more than two — until the 2021 Academy Awards made it seven by giving Frances McDormand her third Oscar, this time for her performance in Nomadland (2020). Which of her three Oscar winning performances do you think is the best?

List: https://www.imdb.com/list/ls088294562/

Poll: https://www.imdb.com/poll/LhHAtyqJXCc/

Note: At the end of the intro, there is a link to similar Oscar-themed face-off polls that focus on actors. I do a series of Oscar wining "actor x vs. actor x" polls but if you have any others (that have already gone live) or know of any that you'd like me to add, just let me know. I'd be happy to add them if they're similar enough to keep the list to a manageable number. Thanks! : )

Thanks, Jess, for noticing that; I'll delete this thread. I added Pencho's poll to my list of Oscar - actor face-offs.

If she wins for Nomadland then it can be made again with an update :)

Indeed, although I think that's very unlikely. You never know, though, so if she does win, you can certainly do that poll if you like.and I'll delete this thread and my list. : )

I have a series going with actors who have been nominated more than once and there are over forty so I have several others from which to choose. I do have a special fondness for McDormand, though. : )  I'm glad that you did the poll that you did because it gave me another poll to add to my list of similar polls -- and a poll from someone besides me. I have to search to add others but when Jess told me about yours, one just fell in my lap, which was nice, lol.

Pencho, would you like to do this one? I changed my list to reflect her third win but I'm eating my words because I said that I thought her winning was very unlikely, lol. And of course, if you want to add her most recent win to your already-existing poll or make a new one for all three, you get first dibs. : )

I'll delete my list and this thread, of course, if you'd like to do it.

I am as well surprised she win, it was probably my least expected victory from the Oscars.

I don't intend to update my old poll, nor create a new one, so it is ok if you want to do it.

Paok made the suggestion after the Oscars: https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/imdb-poll/poll-suggestion-faceoff-fargo-vs-three-billboards-outside-ebbing-missouri-vs-nomadland/60869330eae73941980c78a9 But you posted this before so if you want to do it or leave it for him I'm fine with it.

Yes, it was my least expected victory but I guess I'm not the only one. : )

I didn't see Paok's, so thanks for letting me know. I think they're probably different enough because they ask different things but we'll see.

Thanks, Pencho!

You have a typo in the title.

I find it odd that you say "Only forty-three actors have ever won two or more Oscars". It doesn't seem like a small number considering how hard it can be to win just one.

Thanks for letting me know about the typo, which I corrected.

Hmm, the "only 43" thing: in some ways we are looking at it like the opposite sides of the same coin, I think: considering how many actors are out there, 43 seems to be a very small number, because even those who have won just one acting Oscar is such a small number compared to how many actors there are. In that way, we're looking at it the same way. However, when it's looked at it like this, maybe it seems like we diverge: there have been 386 Oscar acting awards given out and, because It is so difficult to win just one, it's such an elite status to win two -- but 43 actors have taken almost 10% of the acting awards so, looking at it that way, those 43 have dominated. At least tens of thousands have never won one but 43 have won two or more.

I see your point about the diction. Tomorrow when I'm more awake, I'll take a look at it again and see if some other wording comes to me. The word "dominate" seems likely.

I'm very tired but for now, I'm thinking perhaps something like this:

Since the Oscars began, over ninety years ago, forty-three actors have dominated by winning two or more Oscars for acting performances. Considering how difficult and unlikely it is to win just one, even more remarkable is when an actor wins more than two. Six had belonged to that elite group — until the 2021 Academy Awards made it seven by giving Frances McDormand her third Oscar, this time for her performance in Nomadland (2020)Which of her three Oscar winning performances do you think is the best?
