@Peter_pbn I have it as public, I'll let the IMDb staff now about this.

I have only seen eight of the twenty-five and have heard of another nine.  So that is about a third on the list that I don't know.

I don't have a problem with any of the silent films since there is an intrinsic historical value to them.  I would say ditto to the documentaries (like Who Killed Vincent Chin which I have seen).  Strangers on a Train and The Long Goodbye are both admired by critics and fans (and, admittedly, I happen to like both of those movies).  I also like A Nightmare on Elm Street and Fellowship of the Rings, but I'm not sure I would put either on the National Film Registry (Fellowship being more likely though than Elm Street).  I don't personally care for What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?, but it is a film with a lot of fans.  I am assuming The Return of the Jedi made the list to join Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back, but it is a pretty bad movie in my opinion and certainly not worth being held up as one of the great works of film art in any country.

Finally, Pink Flamingos, has it come to that?  I like John Waters in interviews and I can appreciate the punk spirit of Pink Flamingos, but someone eating dog feces on camera is not something many people would care to watch.  If the NFR wanted to honor Waters, I would have suggested Hairspray or, if wanting to honor the low budget films, Female Trouble.   That is just my opinion though.

I am not going to comment on the other films on the list since I have not seen them.

Tough call, because there are many worthy titles this year. My vote went to Return of the Jedi.

If I could divide it into "cultural", "historical" or "aesthetic" value, I would have voted:

Cultural: Return of the Jedi

Historical: The Murder of Fred Hampton

Aesthetic: WALL-E
