LIVE POLL: World Parrot Day — Fictional Movie Parrots

An abbreviated introduction (<2000 characters) will be posted on the final poll list, instead of the 2500 character version posted here.*****

Every year on 31 May, World Parrot Day is celebrated. In the hope of a year-round conservation effort, a poll that features fictional parrots from the movies and short films. The poll squawks that not enough is being done to help our sentient feathered friends and attempts to educate and inform about parrots, so both parrots and humans benefit. #WorldParrotDay 

Parrots are birds with a strong, curved, broad beak, strong zygodactyl clawed feet, an upright stance, and whose natural range is mostly in tropical and subtropical regions. There are 410 different types of parrots around the globe, some of which are more commonly known as Cockatoos, Parakeets, Lorikeets, Racket-tails, Lovebirds, Lories, Parrotlets, Macaws, Amazons, Caïques, Conures, Cockatiels, Poicephaluses, Pionuses, Eclectuses, Keas, Kākāpōs and Kākās. Larger parrots have long lifespans with some living up to 80 to 100 years, while smaller parrots have shorter lifespans that can be 15–20 years. Parrots, along with ravens, crows, jays, and magpies are among the world's most intelligent birds. Interestingly, the brain-to-body size ratio of some parrot species is comparable to that of higher primates with language-using abilities that include understanding and the ability to form sentences, as well as, being highly skilled at using tools and solving puzzles, as demonstrated in some parrot species.

Parrots may not make good pets for most people because of their natural wild instincts such as screaming and chewing. For this reason, parrot rescue groups estimate that most parrots, during the course of their long lifespans, are surrendered and re-homed through at least five homes before reaching their permanent destinations or before dying prematurely from unintentional or intentional neglect and abuse.​ A common problem is that large parrots that are cuddly and gentle as juveniles mature into intelligent, complex, often demanding adults who can outlive their owners, and can also become aggressive or even dangerous. Due to an increasing number of homeless parrots, they are being euthanized like dogs and cats, and parrot adoption centers and sanctuaries are becoming more common. 

Often, parrots do not react well to captivity, causing some parrots to go insane, or develop other unnatural behaviors, such as being riddled with intense fear, feather destruction and self-mutilation. Source: Wikipedia
