Live Poll: Unforgettable Rescuer Performances

Intro:

They work as Coast Guards, Firefighters, mountain rangers and other rescue teams. Some of them gained iconic state in the collective memory of the audience and will be remembered over the decades. Some of them are fictive, some of the stories are based on real events. The rescuers shouldn't be in the military.

Which of these rescuer's actions was the most memorable?

Tell us here

Suggestions:

Movies with the main stories of rescuing someone, no matter if it is one person or animal, or even a whole town. It should center on the rescuers and better not be rated below 5/10, except if it's real unforgettable trash in a positive way (e.g. exceptional good mockbusters). But I prefer good movies. I'm heading for 25 options. If there are no more, 15 would be a good count, too. But I want to set the border to 25 options for preventing the users fall asleep while picking. ;)

No tv-series, no animations, documentations with a rating of 8+/10 ok.

Thank you for suggesting, Mario. It's always a pleasure when you do. I always feel that you have good thoughts on the subject. I have to say that I want to exclude military or police actions. I didn't think of these and the subject I wanted to portay is about the brave men who fight for others without beeing in the military or special (armed) forces. I will write that in the intro. Sorry for that. But maybe it's an interesting subject for an extra poll. If you like to do, you can do. Otherwise I'd put your suggestions on a separated poll list. Greetz.

P.S.: As I remember, the helpers in Dunkirk were non-military seaman, fishermen. But I know that memory can fake. Especially I've seen a movie longer ago. Please correct me, if some seaman from the little rescuing ships were also military.

ok, the Abyss?

When an American submarine sinks in the Caribbean, a US search and recovery team works with an oil platform crew, racing against Soviet vessels to recover the boat.

Abyss also was a fictional military action. Led by the military. I would say it's on the borderline. I tend to say no.

Rin Tin Tin is on the list. And I skip the rule for animations. But they should be rated 6.5+ with more than 50.000 votes. So The Rescuers is on the list. You got me, because these are two of the most known rescuers around the world.

No military action. Indiana Jones is a good one, I take him. It's a little exotic, but matches the criteria.

FYC:

Maybe Charlton Heston as a pilot boarding the ill-fated Boeing in Airport 1975, and the ground crew guiding it so it doesn't crash?

The Firemen in Suicide Squad

The Firemen in Ladder 49

Airport 1975: Considering the fact that the ground crew is not military, nor police, the action was a rescue mission by professional personal which is educated for heavy situations. I would count them to the rescue teams, even thought they are near the borderline to no. Accepted.

Suicide Squad (1935) will be added, Ladder 49 also.

Thank you, Pencho! :D

Maybe you have a better line for Ladder 49 and Suicide Squad like in the other options shown. I must admit that I didn't watch those movies and don't know more than you give me at the moment.

I haven't seen them either and found them trough research, but based on the summaries they might be:

Ladder 49: Captain Mike Kennedy and his team of firemen fighting to save a partner from a burning building.

Suicide Squad: Larry Parker, the firefighter proving he is a hero despite the doubts of his partners.

Skiped the "no animations" rule, but please only animations with a rating of 6.5+ from more than 50.000 IMDb users and the rescuers should really be like many people would say oh yes! Of course! like in the only yet taken option from Disney, 'The Rescuers'.

Just saw that we got an unfaithful anniversary. It's exact 20 years ago that the USA were attacked. I remember I had late shift when the radio news told us unbelieveable things. We really were stunned about the things that just happened. It was one big news that changed all things for decades and we knew that at the time we heared it and couldn't believe. Just one colleage said in a very sober, but determined way: "Ok, the the Ami (America) will bomb somewhere next time."

And it was. We had many fears about Anthrax the following years. Letters with white powder where sent by some morrons and things like that. It was a real bad date, but there were heroes America could rely on. And so there are heroes around the world. Thank you for taking my poll online on this date.
