PS: Truth Is Stranger Than Fiction — Presidential Election Movies? (Ready)

The 2024 U.S. presidential election campaign is in the home stretch, and it has been entertaining in its own right. But, it has been hard to determine whether the real thing or the plots of fictional campaigns and/or elections from the movies push the boundaries of reality / fiction more. American humorist and writer, Mark Twain (who was likely influenced by Lord Byron's 1823 poem, "Don Juan") once said: "truth is stranger than fiction, but it is because fiction is obliged to stick to possibilities; truth isn't."

In your opinion, which of these select movie plots set against the backdrop of a fictional presidential campaign and/or election is the most bizarre story of them all?

'Great title, Urb! Timely, as well. I'll take a look through my list of films I've seen and see if I can find any that you don't have on your list yet, although your list seems quite thorough. 'Really good poll.

My vote: While Taxi Driver is certainly quite bizarre, The Purge (Election Year) and The Manchurian Candidate were even more bizarre, so my vote will go to one of them.

@rubyfruit76 Thanks, I was a bit surprised at how many there were, as well as, the fact bizzareness was the rule, rather than the exception in most of these movies. But, I guess otherwise the movie would be boring.

... although I just noticed that you specify Presidential election and I believe that the candidate in this movie is running for re-election as Governor of California, not President.

@rubyfruit76,  Yes it must be a presidential race to keep it on topic, I am flexible on the country though. It keeps it an "apples to apples" comparison, plus there enough options, not to have to reach. I appreciate the suggestion though.

****I am seeking to fully fill the answer pool with well-voted and diversified options. So, any suggestions about unlisted fictional presidential campaigns and/or elections titles, either foreign or domestic would be appreciated. Fictional presidential candidates should be either the main character or play a significant supporting role in the movie. Any helpful comments regarding inclusions or omissions would also be valued.****

@urbanemovies ,

For you consideration:

State of the Union (1948)

An industrialist is urged to run for President, but this requires uncomfortable compromises on both political and marital levels.
