PS: The IMDb Poll Board User’s Top 10 Scorned, but Successful Movies

Intro:

Did you ever see a movie that got hyped in general public you can't understand ... or stand? The IMDb poll board users present their top 10 lists of movies they dislike, but have at least a 6.5/10 or higher rating with more than 10.000 ratings on the IMDb database.

Which user's bashing-list do you think is the most interesting?

Tell us here.

Suggestions:

This is a very sensible poll, every user can post his 10 favorite movie snubbings. It must be 10! For each suggestion there has to be a conclusion in which the user describes each movie's qualities in maximal five words. Please look at my example. That's the form I want to see. When we suggest, I beg for not judging each other for each ones personal taste, which is shown in that idea. I accept all opinions on each movie you give me, but as I said - please try to break it down in max. 5 words.

No tv-series. Animated ok! Documentations ok! Feature films, not short films.

List: https://www.imdb.com/list/ls082717876/

Poll: TBD

This is a really fun idea but 1) what you're intending is the opposite of "snubbed" and 2) I'd suggest not requiring (or even, in most cases, using) the conclusions in the way that you describe: you have some funny ones but most people probably wouldn't be able to come up with ten clever bumper stickers (I certaintly wouldn't) so the conclusions will end up being just a whole lot of synonyms for "bad" or "stupid." I thought your idea for using conclusions in  your "ten best horror films of the 2010s" poll was great because several of the conclusions were quite insightful and that made that poll particularly compelling but I think your specific recipe for conclusions here would have the opposite effect.

I changed the title and the made edits in the intro, maybe it fits better now. ;D

The rest I'll consider tonight (CET)

@RaviNathan:

I won't replace snubbed with overrated. "Snubbed" sounds much more dramatic.

P.S.: Overrated in the title sounds boring.

I wonder how a fittin conclusion might look in relation to the snubbed movies.

Please, would you explain your idea about the conclusion further.

At first thank you for suggesting, your suggestion is on the list. I allowed myself to shorten your text in some of the ten count of the conclusion, because it grew to long. I hope that doesn't anger you. I would prefer, if you find some shorter descriptions for some of them. I know it is difficult to pack fitting descriptions it into five words. I tried my best.

rubyfruit wrote (some postings above), that each of us could make 1 general conclusion for all ten movies. What du you think about it? Thank you anyway.

I couldn't actually finish Pulp Fiction either, but since I failed to see it due to the disgust it caused me, I believe it was fair to rate it.

With Matrix 2 & 3, I can't remeber understanding much, and I couldn't tell one picture from the other. I understand that Pulp Fiction may be liked, but the other 9, I can't understand how they have more than a 5, which I consider generous.

Hi and thank you for contributing to that poll idea. Do you have any conclusion? Please look at the list. There are several interesting ways to make one. If you really don't want to make a conclusion, I would keep the "N/A" for it. But any of these lists looks more interesting with some words of the contributor. ;)

Conclusion:

01 and 03 - Hate the way mindless violence is used for comedy

02 - One of the most boring spoof movies I've seen

04 - Found it uninteresting

05 and 06 - incomprehensible that brought nothing to the first and only interestinf part.

07 and 10 - Just empty action with undeveloped and cliched characters that made it impossible to relate to anyone

08 - Going only by this movie, I couldn't understand the appeal of the books

09 - Corny and predictable and failing at many levels to interest me in the topic.

Hi Breumaster,

I am confused whether to choose high rated movies (rating above 8) that I don't like (my rating below 6) or not so high rated movies(6.5 to 8) that I dislike (my rating below 1-5). It seems I am one of that person whose ratings mostly matches with IMDb.

What would you prefer?

‐‐------‐----------------‐----------------------------------------------

I think you are overwhelmed with suggestions here and I am not an expert either.

Read below section for suggestions, just adding my thoughts.

The mention of Oscars snub. I feel Oscar snubs are mostly good movies missing out on winning which is opposite to what you might be asking. Maybe you could say "Each year we read about unworthy movies snubbing the place of good candidates at the Oscars.", if that is what you meant.

Discredit might be a good replacement of Disparagement. Also, if you want to keep Snub word, maybe you could keep the title along the lines of "Members Snubbing High Rated Movies"

You could replace "Don't like the most" with "Dislike the most" and use the same in the intro and replace "Did you never see" with "Did you ever see".

This right up my alley, lol... (BTW hey everyone; I've been busy with life xD)

1. Maleficent: How dare you?... I'm still angry.

2. Alice in Wonderland (2010): You have no imagination, do you?

3. Aquaman: Cheesy entertainment that's everyone's favorite?

4. Thor: Ragnarok: Just... eewwwww.

5. Twilight: Need I say more?

6. Frozen 2: You're trying too hard, but also not trying hard enough, somehow.

7. La La Land: BOREDOM.

8. Into the Woods: Hollywood Doesn't Understand Fairy Tales.

9. Pete's Dragon (2016): Disney is Depressing.

10. Titanic: How to Make History Pointless

@Brijesh

Hi, Brijesh. I'm not really overwhelmed. I just do the same as always. I know about my lack of language skills. Ok, someone comes and tells me that's not good why. I say I'll stay that way. So people start explaining better. That's because I want to understand what the lack is at the moment. The best way to get better explanations is to block at first. So all people in consens try to explain it in the best way. That always works. I've done that in many polls and sometimes it needs to stay hard. Some of my best running polls got on their way with that. Just look at the discussion of my poll The Biggest Movie Losers. That was a hard way to go, but it was successful at the end. ;)

(In a time, my language skills were much worse than today)

I re-wrote the intro, because the word snubbing seems not easy to use. I shortened the intro and tried to get to the point better. Mayby now it's less misunderstandable. ;)

Thanks Breumaster. This is quite good. If I get 3 or more things get going at once, I feel overwhelmed myself. So, if your are fine, that is good enough. :)

If you could still share your thoughts on my original question that would be great. Otherwise I will think it over.

It is simple: There is a movie above 6.5/10  with 10.000+ ratings.

You choose one of them, obviously one you dislike and put it on your list

with a little text and therewith bash it. If you really have chosen the same

rating like all other voters together, this poll might be not your cup of meat. ;)

Your texts should be truely felt and match to the movies as you experienced them.

Ok. Though it will never be my cup of meat, I am vegetarian!! :D

Let me try. I am starting with these, probably I will need to search more to come up with the others. (Added more)

  1. American Beauty (1999) - Sleazy attempt in the name of beauty
  2. The Big Lebowski (1998) - Where is the humor?
  3. Clueless (1995) - Clueless! That is how it was
  4. Irreversible (2002) - What made me watch this? Haunting!
  5. Captain Phillips (2013) - A captain who didn't lead
  6. The Impossible (2012) - Impossible to feel the disaster
  7. Wild Things (1998) - Who is with whom? Confusing, uninteresting.
  8. Young Sherlock Homes (1985) - Shame on the name of Sherlock
  9. Due Date (2010) - Even reading the title makes me go to sleep
  10. Soul Surfer (2011) - Less surfing, No soul.

The Avengers (2012)

The Theory of Everything (2014)

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016)

The Shape of Water (2017)

In the Fade (2017)

Deadpool (2016)

The Revenant (2015)

Minority Report (2002)

The Imitation Game (2014)

Boyhood (2014)

I couldn't possibly give a fair conclusion for these movies in just a few words. In case you later adopt ruby's idea, here's a conclusion that sums everything up:

What makes a movie contemptible often has less to do with the level of talent involved, or technical merits, and more with its spirit.

Regarding Minority Report, I was 'butthurt' by two things:
-they made the interesting premise rely more on fantasy than on science fiction. How much more relevant could the movie have been if the predictions were based on data analysis?

-The focus was too much on the detective story. We get the impression that except for one instance of corruption, the system works pretty well. I would have liked to see how people handle a world where their thoughts and feelings are screened by the state.

As far as I remember, both faults are also present in the short story.

The Avengers - I just don't find Marvel humor very funny most of the time. The fights are not choreographed well, don't convey a sense of what's at stake, and don't make good use of the characters' specific traits or the situation. The heroes are too sleek, smug, and smooth-edged for my taste, and I find it hard to root for them as they nonchalantly destroy a big city.

The Revenant - torture porn elevated by vague mysticism, with a lead role that requires blood, sweat, and toil from Leonardo DiCaprio, but not much of his skill as an actor.

The Shape of Water - while more visually extravagant than the 50's creature features this was inspired by, this movie is just as devoid of any subtlety. The villain has no more ambiguity than the 'Creature of the Black Lagoon'. The references to older movies are plain and come without any further insight or a clever or funny touch of originality.

Everyone has movies he likes and others he dislikes.

No need to look down on another, because of different tastes.

Official critics do roast movies, too. But it will be interesting

to see the reactions of the voters, isn't it?

Tsar, the making of that idea is not of that neutral style we normaly do and that is fully intended. I use the harsh and rough words to show up the anger and negative feelings of the IMDb-users about the movies on their lists. So "scorned" and "bashing" are terms which should show the hate, beating and battering on those movies. I did this intentionally in an exaggerated way to make the voters see they should not be to serious in this issue, themselves. But thank you for the correction about "scorned". :D

May I suggest to re-arrange the list a little, or if not, keep the order and at least take another image from your list? Now we have 'Pulp Fiction' twice as image in the voting-list. If you are not ok with it, I'll do as you stated your list and still put 'Pulp Fiction' as the selectable option.
