Live Poll: Scene Defining Music in Movies

Intro:

In many movies there is a longer scene or sequence which is dominated by music, no matter if it is score music, classic music, or even a pop song. It sometimes matches the images so perfect that it will be remembered over the decades.

Which of these scenes is the most memorable because of the music? (If you forgot a scene, you can remember it by clicking the clip. Be careful: If you haven't seen the movie, the clip could spoil it for you ... in some cases.)

Sing your song here.

Suggestions:

There could be a bad flood of suggestions, so I have to be a little strict, sorry.

No movies with ratings below 6.5 No musicals or other music movies, no animation movies, no documentations, no short movies. No titles, no credits. No TV-series

Maximum 3 examples per franchise. Additional: (for each list this starts new. If you got another three for the same franchise, I'll put it on the next list)

Only one long scene or sequence per movie, simply take the best. Which is the best is debateabe.

It shouldn't be shorter than 1 minute, better 2+ minutes.

The most defining rule: The music must have such a dominant role, that it does 50% of the scene or sequence. It should be indispensable.

When you suggest, please add a youtube link to the scene- or sequence-suggestion and name the correct artist and title of the song or score-part.

I know that's very much, but I want my idea to grow as good as possible. Thank you for understanding that. Aiming for 25 options.

List: https://www.imdb.com/list/ls505895696/

Optional 2nd-part-list: https://www.imdb.com/list/ls501532300/

Same like Risky Business. A little simple. I take it on the list. But 25 and one is better --> out.

Ok, searched for it on Youtube.

It's a little short, but I added it. It's also a little simple, but ... matches the criteria. If there are 25 options reached and I get a better option from someone, I'll take the better option.

Please no youtu.be-links. It's suspected to be an IP-Adress-Grabber.

I state you should add an youtube link, not an youtu.be link, because the site is suspected as an IP-Adress grabber. Some people suspect it for hacking.

"Zarathustra ... the second." Please read the suggestion-part I wrote above! Just one scene per movie. If there are more, please give me the best of them. It's kept so stricktly to avoid a flood of suggestions as I wrote above.

Maybe that would also be good for a separate poll. I decided to put only one of them on the list. And I'm very sorry to react so late about it, it happened to be just because I had no time and then lost it out of my mind. I don't want to put "puttin' on the Ritz" several times on the list, because the list should be diversive and that's reached. So I'll put the first option on the list and with the forgotten suggestion Ruby made, I even have 27 picks on the list now. So the list is full and if there are further iconic suggestions, maybe I'll suggest a second poll of it.

Sorry, I just remembered that I excluded musicals and music movies, so Fred Arstaire has to leave.

Puttin' on the Ritz in 'Young Frankenstein' is still in, because it isn't a musical. Just a part of comedy in music form to mock the old musicals.

Bernard Herrmann's contribution to movies can't be underestimated, but, to choose one, I'll single out "The Day The Earth Stood Still" (1951), in particular, the scene where Gort is reactivated, burns through the plastic-like cube, frees Klaatu from prison, and carries him back to the spaceship.

The scene runs just over five minutes with no sound except for Herrmann's score, and a couple of laser blast sound effects.

Thank you, I'm very interested in your suggestion. Can you give me the link of an IMDb-image of exact this scene/sequence? Seemingly I forgot this scene and need an image. I also need the name of the score-title in exact this scene, else it will be a lot of work to figure it out. I'll put the option on the list when I got those things. Thank you. :D

Hi Breu and welcome back! 'Hope you had an enjoyable time. : )

FYC:

The Mission: scene in which De Niro's character, Rodrigo, carries the heavy bag of armor up the cliff (music by Ennio Morricone)

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091530/mediaviewer/rm301366528/

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091530/mediaviewer/rm469138688/

Dirty Dancing: I didn't see this movie but it's so iconic that I knew about it -- but I'm not certain how long it lasts. It's long enough for them to do a good bit of dancing. Oh the scene is the dancing performance toward the end. (music: "Time of My Life" performed by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes)

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0092890/mediaviewer/rm2788047872/

Ghost: 'Another movie I never saw but the scene is so iconic. I really don't know how long the scene lasts, though. It's the famous pottery scene.

(music: "Unchained Melody" performed by the Righteous Brothers)

Hi, Ruby. I'm very sad to have missed your posting. When I look at the date, it was even a month ago. Maybe the mail was lost? whatever! I'll consider your suggestions immediately.

P.S.: I had the time of my life! It was simply great. I guess I told that I had a respiratory breakdown a few month ago, because I'm suffering from apnoea. At the wellness ressort I had very good trainers who could show me how necessary bodymove-related breathing is. We did all kinds of action to train it. I'm breathing like a young god, now. The advantages of a good healthcare system!

Ruby, these are very good picks. I still know them (especially the swayzee-scenes). These are iconic to the whole generation of 1980s' youth. I still know the girls drifted away when these songs were played on the radio. ;) Some seemed to be completely absent.

I'm very sory for answering so late. So I do an amen and take 26 instead of the aimed 25 options. Thank you, Ruby. ;)

Ruby, I'm again sorry, I just read my lines again. This music poll was set very low in my mind hierarchy, so I lost the settings for more urgent things and relied on people to read my lines up there. There was a special reason why I excluded musicals and music movies. And animations. It's normally that each musicals is based on scene defining music, so it is nothing special. Same for each music movie. So sorry, but "The Time of my life has" to vanish, even though it is an outstanding piece of music movies, but it's a music movie.
