@urbanemovies

May I suggest to put one additional on the list, just fyc:

The Evil Dead, it's one of the first and I guess the most iconic.

If manors also count, I'd suggest The Haunting.

(I know this manor has wall and a fence buildt around, but it's in a rural countyside and nature around it. I'm not sure if it would fit. As I said, just fyc.) :D

The Evil Dead:

Sorry, I just saw that you didn't put the old, iconic movie for the franchise on the list, but 2013 one. So I did fail to see it. I'm always searching for the most known posters, when I take a quick look on the lists. I think the new movie isn't as scary as the old one. The old one lives through the murky atmosphere and creepy noises. But of course I don't want to tell you how to design your list. Just wanted to tell you why I think so.

@Breumaster I agree it has the merits, I like the Evil Dead II from the original series better. But, I think the original Evil Dead suffers a bit too much from its low budget restrictions and like the newer version better.

Since 1972, the International Day of Forests, previously called World Forestry Day, has been celebrated annually on March 21st. The United Nations proclaimed day is intended to raise worldwide awareness of the importance of all types of forests. The actionable theme for 2023 is "Forests and sustainable production and consumption." Learn more @ International Day of Forests Outreach and tweet in support on the Twitter hashtag #IntlForestDay. In honor of the day, a forest-related movie poll and a reminder that a world without forests would be a true horror story.

Which of these horror movies* that is centered around a house in the woods, a remote dwelling or a similar off-the-beaten-path single structure building is the scariest one of them all? * one dedicated answer slot per movie franchise

How about "The Last House on the Left."  The rape scene takes place in the woods and the house is an isolated vacation cabin.

@TheOldJalapenoman Not remote enough,  thanks for the suggestion.

There are other movies which meet a higher remoteness standard. I have seen the movie and agree it is a rural setting though. Plus, it doesn't seem to be even the only house on that road, based on the title.

@urbanemovies I know that there was an original film and a remake.  I only saw part of the ramake in a hotel room several years ago (not the kind of movie I generally watch, but when you are stuck in a hotel....).  I do remember that two girls were raped in an isolated part of the woods and that the house was also remote.  I don't know if the original was any different.   I just suggested it as I remembered the title and thought it might apply.

@TheOldJalapenoman I have seen both the original and the remake. The rogue band end up at one of the girl's houses and end up interacting with her parents in the film (which beyond the title which indicates multiple houses on the same road) depicts another nearby house. I like the suggestion, but I think there are plenty of movies that depict a solitary remote house to set the threshold that high for inclusion.

@mariojacobs Two solid suggestions. I think the Tourist Trap (1979) belongs on the Scariest Vacation or Recreation Horror Movie? Poll Suggestion though. The Unseen (1980) probably doesn't make the cut though, due to the high bar of a solitary remote house and popularity. You highIight an interesting horror era of late 70's and early 80's movies I want to represent in these polls though.

Rob Zombie’s House of 1000 Corpses seems a lot like Tourist Trap in broad strokes. I wonder if it was the inspiration or simply in the same subgenre. It is different enough in some key details not to call it remake, but seems to follow the same formula.

@Pencho15, Thanks, for the suggestion. I have seen this movie, it is pretty good. I added it to the answer pool.

I wouldn't have thought of it as a House In the Woods horror movie, since the first part takes place on the road and last part on the run in the woods, with middle at the remote cabin. I agree it fits the bill for remoteness and mostly a single structure film (exclusive brief gas station stop).
