Live Poll: OMG YOU’RE HUGE

The list page: https://m.imdb.com/list/ls561154837

The Poll Page: https://www.imdb.com/poll/0YZOUjoH9zo/

This a list of gigantic characters. In movies, they usually tend to be gods or monsters. But we also gigantic robots too. So which one is your favorite?

I’m going start this list with America’s favorite Tall Tale giant lumberjack hero, Paul Bunyan, who got surprisingly few appearances in movies (and someone used him in a mad slasher in a film called [link=tt1684548]!)

If any of these don’t measure up to what you call “Huge”, oh please tell us right here what does, and remember that this is an image poll.

Right now, you guys, I have to take a break and do something else right now. I fully expect that someone is going to suggest a transformer. Since I am not a fan of that franchise, I’m going to let the real fans to pick one. I fully intend to put Thanos on this pole.

Them

Any recommendations for other 1950s movies about mutant bugs, spiders and other creepies?

1950s "giant bug" fans recommend the following,

starting with 1953's  The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms (1953).

In 1954,  The Naked Jungle (1954)  (army ants) was released,

followed by  Tarantula (1955)  and  It Came from Beneath the Sea (1955)  (octopus) in 1955.

1957 saw the release of more giant bug movies, including

The Deadly Mantis (1957),  Beginning of the End (1957) (grasshoppers),

The Giant Claw (1957), and  Attack of the Crab Monsters (1957).

In 1958, there was  Monster from Green Hell (1957)  (wasps),

Earth vs the Spider (1958),  The Strange World of Planet X (1958) (1958), and  The Fly (1958).

In 1959, The  The Giant Gila Monster (1959)Attack of the Giant Leeches (1959),

and  The Killer Shrews (1959)  tried to ravage the earth.

You probably already know this, from a book I have about the history of horror movies, after the dropping of the nuclear bomb, an era of horror movies started that were more scientific in nature, Aka sfyfy horror. And of course the Martian invasion films started because people feared what might fall out of the sky.  The sfyfy horror films you are referring too usually has the common thread of nuclear radiation mutations. “Them” is considered one of the best nuclear mutation SciFy horror films.

@dan_dassow all are added. I took the second picture because the building gave scale to how large Adam. I have been doing that a lot in this poll. There is something in the picture to give scale.

and thank you for finding the cyclops. I was looking for him.
notice there is a lot characters in this poll that are Ray Harryhausen or characters that he made in the older versions of the film. He had worked on the original “Mighty Joe Young”.

Don’t worry about it. I got 9 with 0 votes. So I can easily swap it out with one of them. (With all the transformers fans out there, no body voted for Bumblebee?) besides, it is Ray Harryhausen! Remember how many films on this list are ether his work or remakes of the original films he had worked on (“King Kong” and “Mighty Joe Young”)?

right now, I got to mow the lawn. And I’m going work on a list of movies with the word “Kiss” in the title like “Kiss Me Deadly” (a Mickey Spillane novel directed by Robert Aldrich), “Kiss, Kiss, Bang , Bang”, “Judas Kiss” (1988, Alan Rickman, Emma Tompson (aka: great casting)), “Kiss of the Dragon”, “Kiss of the Spider Woman” and “The Long Kiss Goodnight”.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_tallest_people

According to the Guinness Book Of World Records, the tallest human in recorded history was Robert Wadlow of the United States (1918–1940), who was 272 cm (8 ft 11 in). He received media attention in 1939 when he was measured to be the tallest man in the world, beating John Rogan's record, after reaching a height of 267 cm (8 ft 9 in).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Wadlow

Robert Pershing Wadlow (February 22, 1918 – July 15, 1940), also known as the Alton Giant and the Giant of Illinois, was a man who was the tallest person in recorded history for whom there is irrefutable evidence. He was born and raised in Alton, Illinois, a small city near St. Louis, Missouri.[1]

There may be images of Robert Wadlow (https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0905594/) in some of the titles about him.

As for Robert Wadlow, I guess this list didn’t get the largest person ever filmed, but the list got the largest characters ever filmed. This list is about characters.

@ACT_1 yes, “The incredible Shrinking Man” belongs in that category but I’m not going to use it because the cat and the spider are normal size but seen from the smaller man’s perspective. That makes me rethink Gulliver. But in the next stop in Gulliver’s travels, he does stop in the land of giants. That is not usually portrayed in the film versions but I do know of two that did: one staring Ted Danson and the other staring Jack Black. I don’t knew if the Richard Harris version did.

@dgranger ,

I voted for Paul Bunyan (1958) and his blue ox Babe.

Legend has it that Minnesota’s 10,000 lakes were created by Paul Bunyan’s footprints filling with water as he explored the state.

@dan_dassow the part of about Minnesota is in the Disney short film Paul Bunyan - the link goes to the YouTube video by the Redding School district.
here is a small story for you. In Chicago, at the museum of Science and Industry, there used to be (I don’t know if it is still there), there used to be a small log cabin you walk into with a floor slanting to a large window, on the other side of the window is Paul Bunyan’s head telling his story. He is holding the cabin up.

yeah, he is no longer there and he is back in storage. His head was brought out of storage for an 80th anniversary celebration of the museum and but right back. He was one of the most popular exhibits. Can you believe that this gigantic head was made out of styrofoam? His lips and eyes moved and talked at the press of a button.
