Live poll: Movies Based On Classic Russian Literature

What is your favorite movie based on classic Russian literature? Many Russian writers have written great literature that has been turned into movies around the world. Which one is your favorite?
If you have any to suggest, come to this page and ask Snegurochka (the snow maiden) and Grandfather Frost (both are the Russian version of Santa Claus) to include them here.

Starting with “Lolita”, I had used this: https://www.thoughtco.com/best-works-russian-literature-4158120 but the ones before, I had already knew. This is the result of one person criticizing me and Americans that I couldn’t name five Russian works. Sorry he lost. This American had to read “The Death of Ivan Llyich” in high school as a part of world literature class! And since I collect Christmas lore and songs from around the world, I knew about the Snowmaiden and Grandfather Frost. I play the video game, “Into the Radius”, which is based on “Roadside Picnic” and was made into the movie “Stalker”. I have read “Doctor Zhivago” and “War and Peace”. And the video game, “The Last Express” has “The Firebird” poem or fairy tale in it. And since I love films, don’t get me started about Sergei Eisenstein’s greatness as a director!!!!!!

@dgranger since you are adding the name of the original author in some entries, you should be consistent and add it fro all options.

FYC:

Alexander Pushkin probably deserves a place. His most popular film is Onegin.

Ivan Goncharov most popular film is Neskolko dney iz zhizni I.I. Oblomova

Ivan Turgenev could have All Forgotten which is based part on a story by him and part on a work by Chekhov

The Double is Dostoyevsky most popular film, you could also add Vischonti's White Nights or Saawariya also based on his tales.

Nikolai Leskov has Lady Macbeth

All are added. The reason why some names were not mentioned was that if the titles of the films were the same as the books, and the work was famous like “War and Peace”, “Doctor Zhivago” , or “Crime and Punshment”, I had thought the people could just click on the title and see the author’s name or just knew who wrote it. If you haven’t notice, there quite a few films with different titles that are based on Tolstoy’s “The Death of Ivan Ilyich”.

Done.  I’m happy for several reasons. As you can see I had a challenge placed on me.
