1. The Lighthouse

2. Hereditary

3. The Babadook

4. It Follows

5. Under the Shadow

6. The Witch

7. A Quiet Place

8. Under the Skin

9. Annihilation

10. Don't Breathe

Conclusion: I have never watched many horror films, besides the old classics, and at first I thought that I might not have even seen ten made in the past decade. I think it's because of A24 that I actually watched many more than ten and that I would recommend most of them. Netflix, Jordan Peele, and especially the directors that put empowered women in the lead roles of several of these smart films also get a lot of credit.

I really like this one, Breu (I left another post about how much I also liked coming up with my list), and I think prompting people to add a conclusion was a great idea that makes it even more interesting so bravo.

For Boss, you have 'Raw' shown and I saw what he posted about it but it's not on his list in the poll.

Your suggestion is on the list.

Have you got an conclusion like the others?

The best horror movies according to me are the ones with a good story and atmosphere that evoke the horror, where the pace is slow and steady with may be few jump scares, and where horror elements are not added just for the sake of adding them.

Does that work as a conclusion?

I missed this earlier, sorry.

I have made major changes to my list:

01. [link=https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4281724/?ref_=tt_mv_close]Terrifier[/link]

02. [link=https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2358913/]Berserk: Ougon jidai-hen III - Kourin[/link]

03. [link=https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5052448/?]Get Out[/link]

04. [link=https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5715874/]The Killing of a Sacred Deer[/link]

05. [link=https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5715874/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0]Berserk: Ougon jidai-hen II - Dorudorei koryaku[/link]

06. [link=https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7984734/]The Lighthouse[/link]

07. [link=https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1457767/]The Conjuring[/link]

08. [link=https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2210479/]Berserk: Ougon Jidai-hen I - Haou no Tamago[/link]

09. [link=https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6644200/]A Quiet Place[/link]

10) [link=https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7167630/]Batman: Gotham by Gaslight[/link]

Conclusion: I prefer when horror films emphasize on suspense rather than on jump scares, and I love when they push the boundaries of horror a little further.

I corrected the list. #04 & #05 have the same tt-#. I corrected it best I could. Please check, if it is the title you wanted me to put on the list. Thank you. :D ... also for the conclusion. ;)

cinephile: Just saw gotham by gaslight isn't tagged as horror-movie so it doesn't fit the rules. Would you please take another one? The Berserks aren't either. Wiped them off. Please remember: The movies should be tagged as horror.

@Breumaster

I don't understand that rule, they are tagged as horror, the genres are displayed in alphabetical orders, not in importance order.

If you really don't want to put The Berserk and Gotham by Gaslight.

You can fill in that order:

1-Terrifier

2-Get Out

3-The Killing of a Sacred Deer

4-The Lighthouse

5-The Conjuring

6-A Quiet Place

7-Split

8-Us

9-It

10-Bird Box

You can see here that they fit the rules:

https://www.imdb.com/list/ls096223318/?sort=list_order,asc&st_dt=&mode=detail&page=1&genres=Horror&title_type=movie&release_date=2010%2C2019&ref_=ttls_ref_yr

Except that the poster representing my picks is from Get Out and not Terrifier, the rest looks fine.

Yep. Gotham by Gaslight is in fact listed under horror.

Thank you for posting that picture, Tsarstepan. :D

I always looked at the title-sites of the movies and there were only 3 tags shown. I didn't know that there can be even more tags, which are not shown then. That changes the whole thing for me. I did not want an importance order, nor an alphabetic order. I was convinced that there are only three tags, max. So I will put them back on the list. Please wait some time. I'll do.

I'm sorry about that, cinephile. Your picks are back on the list. I was just informed false.

TsarStepan:

I'm just looking through the list more close. 'Coherence' is also not tagged as horror in the genre tags. This time I looked at it very close to not repeat fails.

8.9K Messages

Ok, someone corrected that and tagged 'Coherence' as horror. So I've put it back to the option.

Coherence was labeled as a horror film when I suggested it. Between then and recently, some asshat decided to randomly remove it. I reinstated that genre label a day or so ago to remedy the situation.

@CyrilMartin

Hi, Cyril.

It have to be horror-tagged movies from 01/01/2010 to 12/31/2020.

On your list there are 3 movies from the 80's and 1 of them isn't tagged as horor movie.

'Aliens' is not in the horror genre. I keep the other movies as you wanted.

Do you have a conclusion why your list is how it is?

If yes, I would complete your option. ;)

Conclusion: My fav horror movies are one with a good story with an atmosphere that tends to exploit the fundamentals of the genre and which does not entirely depend on jumpscares for horror elements. Best Horror movies are one's with suspense creating anticipation that something bad is gonna happen.

Hi Breu, are you going to add my list? I also left a note about Boss's list -- it's posted right after the post of my list.

Also, I don't see any missing movies of cinephile's but Pencho said there were some missing. Is that all resolved?

@rubyfruit76

Hi, Ruby. :D

I've put your option on the list. I don't know how I could have overseen it. Sorry for that. and yes, there is one title missing on Tsar Stepan's list. One movie wasn't tagged as horror in the genre-tags.

Correction: It wasn't. Now it is. Seems like someone corrected that. I've put it back to the list.
