Live Poll: Favorite Fighter

Bruce Lee (1940 – 1973) was a Chinese-American martial artist, actor, director, martial arts instructor and philosopher.

He was the founder of Jeet Kune Do, a hybrid martial arts philosophy drawing from different combat disciplines.

Bruce Lee is considered by critics, media and other martial artists to be the most influential martial artist of all time and a pop culture icon of the 20th century, who bridged the gap between East and West.

Who is your favorite fighter, real or fictional?

@mariojacobs

I like the answer pool and the general theme of the poll suggestion. But, I think you could phrase the question better and have a related introduction.

FYC, Are you asking who is the best fighter or who is your favorite martial artist, because it seems like you are asking both questions at the same time.

Revised Question: Which real or fictional martial artist is your favorite one of them all? or Which real or fictional martial artist is the best fighter?

It seems like you would want to discuss comparing fighters from different schools of the martial arts and better define the martial arts scope that includes MMA, to Western Boxing, to Jeet Kune Do So, to Muay Thai to Wing Chun and so on that all these fighters come from. I don't understand the purpose of posting a bunch of random Bruce Lee facts has in advancing the conversation, or what it has to do with the listed answer pool. Your introduction should advance your theme and educate the poll takers on the topic to make a better choice.

This would be an example of a related fact, if I understand your poll's theme correctly as an interdisciplinary fighter comparison. Supposedly, a fighting style to be called a martial art has to fill four requirements: 1) can be used in a warlike setting, 2) can be codified into a written system, 3) aids in mental and spiritual development, and 4) preserves a definite history and culture.

Since Lee is in a league of his own, as your intro eloquently puts it, I think we can all agree that he is the greatest (and I believe that) and therefore any iconic fighter would come as a close second. If Lee was to be included however, I'm afraid the intro would create a bias that would strengthen his already large chances to win the poll. To put it simply, I wouldn't have included him.

Also, for JCVD may I recommend a picture that shows him in a fighting position, that shouldn't be difficult to find.

@ElMaruecan82 indeed, usually I exclude the option that is going to get +90% of the votes. I put a better image of van Damme. 👍

I also added one of my favorite fighters from the 80s movies:

Benny "The Jet" Urquidez.

Urquidez wearing suspenders and bow tie 😁 fighting Jackie Chan, movie: Meals on Wheels
