I think the ground of favorite Top-rated Black- directed movies has been covered already, Live Poll: http://www.imdb.com/poll/D33BZKSZ-6U/

This poll suggestion basically asks the same favorite question, sets an identical floor of 7.0+ rated films and has a very similar answer pool.

The minor difference between the two polls is that the term "celebrated" is used instead of "top-rated" to include some noteworthy movies that were ground-breaking nonetheless by black directors (included by virtue of a high Metacritic score) in the existing live poll.

Also, black-directed movies have been scructinized in other IMDb polls from alternate angles, such as black-led movies that topped the box office and black director's proven bankability.

Hi @urbanemovies,

I did come across your poll while creating my list.

If we ignore the wording, the difference between our lists is that these 14 movies are not on your list and these 14 movies from your poll are not on my list.

And that's because my list is completely based on IMDb ratings.

I saw other similar polls too but I still posted this suggestion 'cause I believe there's much difference but yeah, it is possible for the poll results to be almost same.

I agree there is a difference of those 14 titles between the poll suggestions. I would even take it a bit further, there is reason for that difference. Among my fourteen differing titles, there is more diversity and variety with only one director being duplicated. My list chooses not to duplicate the same mainstream black directors over and over again and reaches farther back to the 1960's to include the directors who pioneered Black cinema, the independent ones taking bigger risks today, with more international black directors represented and far more female black directed-movies (5 more). Among your fourteen different titles, F. Gary Gary and Antoine Fuqua represent eight of those titles. Your homogenous larger list of thirty five leaves off even higher top-rated Black-directed movie titles with MetaCritic scores in the 80s and 90s and/or are 7.5+ IMDb rated, simply because they are not recent and/or do not have a lot of votes.  It creates the impression there are only a handful of talented black directors, that blacks first starting directing in 1989 (with 18 of your 35 titles from just 4 black directors) and that the only good black directors are American. Also, almost all the top-rated black female directed titles are left off with the exception of the two movies you included from Ava DuVernay

Your poll title and question makes it seem like all black-directed movies were considered if they were top-rated, when in reality a fair amount were not even considered (likely due to the 50k and 100k vote floor).
