Live Poll: The Butterfly Effect Movies

A small change in one state can cause big differences in a later state. This theory is called the Butterfly Effect. A butterfly flapping its wings can determine the path of a tornado - this is the most famous example of this theory.

Which of these movies using the butterfly effect do you like the most?

List: https://www.imdb.com/list/ls082600535/

I really like this idea and the list but the intro probably needs a bit of tweaking so it doesn't seem like you're asserting that the example is factual -- maybe something like:

A small change in one state can cause big differences in a later state. This theory is called the Butterfly Effect, named after the hyperbole that a butterfly flapping its wings can determine the path of a tornado.

Metaphor sounds right to me as well. Changed, thanks.

Two FYCs:

Not sure if it's too obscure for this list, but Oldrich Lipsky's sci-fi comedy I Killed Einstein, Gentlemen includes the butterfly effect keyword/tag, and also fits with the plot description.

Also, the butterfly effect is discussed in Tenet, though it's not clear to me how much it affects the actual plot.

I am sticking to minimum 1,000 votes, so the former is skipped.

I haven't seen Tenet. I read the plot, but doesn't seem like it shows the effect of what happens if something changes. It does say what might happen, but not clear enough.

Thanks for suggestions. :)

Those are good and fair reasons! If I understood the plot of Tenet better perhaps I could have a better idea of whether it would fit or not, but I suspect it doesn't now that I think of it. Thanks!

Hello Brijesh,

I just found this poll today, very nice.

But I don't find 'Edge of Tomorrow' in this list.

As this movie is only about changing the path of history (in the world of the movie). It should definitely be in the list

Thank you StefaanWest. 🙂

I think 'Edge of Tomorrow' changes the past based on the future events. It seems more like an inverse Butterfly effect to me.
