The Gone with the Wind (1939) various pre-release posters, all seem tied to a milestone annivesary, but MGM seemed more interested in pushing home video product in the actual milestone year and would re-release the movie in theaters the year before (1998 instead of 1999 for 60th anniv.) or after (1980 instead of 1979 for 40th anniv.). Plus, the LOTR: Two Towers 20th, Big Lebowski 25th and the Flashdance 40th all happen in April 2023 and have Fathom Events happenings.

"28th Anniversary Re-Release" seems like a stretch.

Same with "17th anniversary" and "31st anniversary".

The film was re-released in 1967, but not because of an anniversary.

I think Peter has a point.

There seems to be three types of theatrical re-releases: 1) milestone anniversaries (5th, 10th, 15th, etc.), 2) those associated with an upgraded version of the film (restored, 3D, IMAX, 4K, Sound, etc.) or 3) those associated with other events (sequels, etc.).

Maybe, you could split the suggestion and do two or three different poll suggestions, as I assume most the odd year posters have to do with film being released with an upgraded print. After all, there are 250 movies that have had multiple re-releases, so there are tons of posters to choose from.

  • 1) IMDb Movie Top 250 Milestone Anniversary Poster

Which of these posters issued for the milestone anniversary re-release of a previously released film, currently in the IMDb Movie Top 250, would you most like to decorate your room with?

  • 2) IMDb Movie Top 250 New & Improved Version Poster

Which of these posters issued for the release of an upgraded version of a previously released film, currently in the IMDb Movie Top 250, would you most like to decorate your room with?

I don't think a separate suggestion is needed in this case as very few of the films from Top 250 are being re-released for an occasion and very few of them launch different poster designs for that occasion.

Your poll suggestion and your call.

But, your reasoning is flawed, as the opposite is true.

  • I think you will hard pressed to find a movie in the Top 250 that hasn't been out a significant amount of time that hasn't been re-released.
  • Plus, since it is common for posters get a dozen or so versions upon their first release, it is unusual to see the marketing department not issue a single new poster for a re-release. When you consider there is millions of dollars to be made, a couple thousand for a new poster is chump change to a distrbutor. Whether, they make into the IMDb media index is a separate issue. But as proof, you will usually see a version of the updated art on the home video product that follows the re-release.

If you are adding any official theatrical re-release poster which isn't necessarily related to an anniversary, you could call it IMDb Top 250 Coolest Re-Release Poster.

@Peter_pbn & @Dibyayan_Chakravorty,

It seems like an "anniversary in name only" poll to me too.

Not, only does the movie not have had to been re-released in a milestone year, it does not have been re-released on the anniversary date either, nor does it have to been during the same anniversary month. The only requirement seems to be it has to have been re-released either 366 days before or 366 days after the actual anniversary day to qualify for inclusion in the answer pool.

2. Description: With which of these re-release posters from the movies of IMDb Top 250 would your most like to decorate your room?

3. Updated description of each option.

@Peter_pbn Thanks Pibby!

Added ✅

The Sound of Music, 2018

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0059742/mediaviewer/rm3044992769

Added and replaced my previous Lawrence movie poster as I found your poster to be cooler than mine and also this version (50th Anniversary) got premiered at Cannes ✅

Lawrence of Arabia, 2012

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0056172/mediaviewer/rm4023896577

Not Added as of now as I am looking for cool poster designs ❌

Psycho, 1969

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0054215/mediaviewer/rm3689544705

.........................

You may ask why I removed my previous Lawrence poster. I think one poster per movie creates better chance for other movies to be placed in future.

In case of multiple re-release posters, the one with cool design will be added.

Btw, your Lawrence and Sound both posters are stunning.
