For now, I could include Oppenheimer and Asteroid City. But, before the films of the European filmmakers (particularly those projected at Cannes) reach North America, I have no I idea what will be my favorite films. In fact, I might not know my favorite of 2023 until summer of 2024.

Dangnabbit. I forgot to figure The Holdovers (2023) into the equation. For now? I'll carelessly toss it into the Honorable Mentions pile. Mood dependent? I could swap it for the 10th spot.

I have seen only 12 movies from 2023. The majority of the 45 films I saw in theater were older releases. So could you keep only the 6 first films of my list, this corresponds to the "great films" I saw this year. My list might continue to change before the 31st. I want to watch The Zone of Interest.

1. Inside the Yellow Cocoon Shell

2. In Our Days

3. Anatomy of a Fall

4. Fallen Leaves

5. Asteroid City

6. Oppenheimer

7. Une femme respectable

8. Killers of the Flower Moon

9. Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One

10. Le ciel rouge

Inside the Yellow Cocoon Shell is Thien An Pham's first feature film. His career looks very very promising.

Yay, I love when you do this poll. I still have so many to see, some of which haven't been released yet -- or haven't yet gotten to my city. And then a lot just because fall and winter are when most of my favorite films come out and I was really busy this past fall semester and I was in the hospital for most of December. As soon as I'm well enough, there are so many I plan to see. : )

Oh, can shorts be included?

So far, I've seen only about 20 and would include only five so far:

1. The Swan (if shorts are allowed; Wes Anderson's short)

2. The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar (if shorts are allowed; Wes Anderson's short)

3. The Holdovers

4. Air

5. Mutt

One of my most important goals, or resolutions for the New Year, has been to be well enough to go to the theater on January 27, when 'All of Us Strangers' opens in my city. I can't wait to see that movie. And between now and then, I plan on watching many at home, including several that I'm really looking forward to, so my list should be much more developed by January 28. : ) I hope that's not too late.

Shorts can definitely be included.

I always enjoy making this end of year poll, and I can't believe this is year 8!

Hope you are doing better, being in the hospital for that long is never fun.

Well, I've just seen my favorite so far, The Holdovers. I can't really be bothered to rank any others, and there are many that I haven't seen yet.

@Pencho15 Would it be possible to wait until the 22nd? Poll could go live the night before the Oscar nominations are announced.
