2020 (15 titles) = 1999 (15 titles)
2019 (69 titles) > 2020 (15 titles)
Average of my 2020 ratings = 4.73
Only 1996 has a worse average than 2020 in my ratings.
So I don't know what was my favorite movie, maybe Tenet or 1917.

@paok_kilkis

I disagree

It had a limited release on the 25 of December in USA in 11 theaters

1) I don't live in USA.

2) 99% of people even in USA couldn't attend the limited release.

For me, it is a 2020 film.

Paok. Can you please clarify your definition of how films may qualify as 2020 releases? There are several ways that can be defined. Are you talking about US theatrical release schedules? 2020 theatrical rules (due to COVID) only make things more complicated.

Cinephile has noted 1917 as an example (using its 2020 release schedule in certain countries that are not the US).

To Cinephile? 1917 is a 2019 film as defined by the Academy of Motion Picture and Sciences. IF this is the standard of this poll suggestion, it would be nice if it was written out thusly.

The IMDb year should be used I think. That's the only way to avoid different criteria depending on where in the world we live.

Hamilton (2020).

I have just 7 titles from 2020, I guess I am too much into 90s now. :D

Can you change my pick from Tenet to Été 85 (2020).

Not because Été 85 is better, but because I want to give more choices to the voters.

Da 5 Bloods

I think that even in a normal year this would be in my top five. That said, if I had seen 'Never Rarely Sometimes Always' or one or two other films, this choice would probably not be nearly as easy.

You still can see 'Never Rarely Sometimes Always' as it's streaming free on HBO Max (with the paid subscription). I probably shouldn't needle. It's been on my list since it was placed on HBO Max back in April and I haven't gotten the nerve to start watching it.

I saw it about a month ago and it was exquisite. Paok, could I change my choice to Never Rarely Sometimes Always?

I saw 14 2020 films.

From those that have not been suggested my favorite was The Invisible Man

If someone else wants to take that film, then I propose a nice surprise in Mexican animation, but that won't get any votes since it barely was seen: La liga de los 5

I was thinking about nominating Children of the Sea (2019) as I have seen its premiere at the NYCIFF in early (prepandemic) 2020 (but to verify and look it up, that wasn't the North American premiere but the less impressive East Coast premiere. It's North American premiere was in Oct. 2019 in LA). So? That film is an honorable mention.

I'll gleefully nominate Soul (2020).

Additional honorable mentions:

Weathering with You (2019): 17 Jan 2020 (USA)

 (2019): 19 February 2020

Fritzi: A Revolutionary Tale (2019): AnotherNEW YORK INTERNATIONAL CHILDREN'S FILM FESTIVAL

featured screening.

Onward (I) (2020)

 (2019)

The far too short, Burn the Witch (2020) clocking in at 63 minutes.

and finally, Palm Springs (2020).

I got a chance to see Weathering with You (2019), rewatch, at the movie theater this year. Can you replace my Soul nomination with Weathering with You (2019)?
