@Rafael_M

I made this poll as part 2 of your original poll (Favorite movie based on a magazine article?). I used different titles than the ones you used in your poll.

In the description I mentioned your poll and generated a link.

This real-life story was first written about by Ty Gagne in the Union Leader newspaper, which he later abridged for Reader's Digest, then adapted into this Naomi Watts movie in 2022, where he got a story credit.

@GabrielFox I was glad to see a number of these movies and articles cited, in particular,  the wired "Radical" article.

However, I don't think 'In Cold Blood' (1967),' All the President's Men' (1976),  or 'Spotlight' (2015) should be included in the list. Since, the movies are about the reporting of, rather than the movies being about the content of articles or the events themselves or depicting those events themselves really. If they do, it is done really as some type of flashblack or as a secondary aspect and it is only done to better explain the main reporting of theme of the movie. Anyways, all these movies are more about the lives of the reporters themselves and how they reported the story. These two other movies do the same. It is a dealbreaker to me, when the reporting is the thrust of the story and not the content of articles.

@GabrielFox I think 'Our Friend' (2019) and 'A Private War' (2018) would be the reporting of story exceptions to the rule:

1. Do not include movies that are more about the lives of the reporters themselves and how they reported the story.

Since, the two movies are about the personal lives of the reporters, as are the articles being about their personal lives. If it is at all about the reporting the article cited, it is done as a way to tell story and is very minor aspect. Regardless, the content of the articles and main theme of movie are same. Whereas, in 'In Cold Blood' (1967),All the President's Men' (1976), and 'Spotlight' (2015) it does not.

@GabrielFox

FYC, Kill the Messanger (2014) and A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood (2019) are two more exceptions to the rule and belong on the list. Both, because the reporting of the story is the story itself. But, you might want to cite a latter article about his harrassment too. Rather than just the initial expose, "Dark Alliance", San Jose Mercury News, 1996 - Gary Webb which is half the story in the film. The movie has combined aspects of Kill the Messenger and Dark Alliance to it.

Rule #1. Do not include movies that are more about the lives of the reporters themselves and how they reported the story.
